Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I think the reason for the longer pipe is because it's probably made to bolt to the t-25 which has the 90 degree elbow pointing towards the passenger side. Well obviously most people buying this will have upgraded their turbo by now so that cuts out the extra length of piping you need.

I took everything out LOL I finally got that bastard off. I'll have mine wednsday and have it installed by the weekend. What about that guy with the 1g that was trying to instlal the 2g?

It's not long enough to wrap around for the t-25. I'll post some pics as to what you have to do to make it work with the t25/28.

I had to cut my lower intercooler pipe about 2 inches as well. Also, there is a black box on the drivers side that I see alot of people are removing. The side pipe runs right into it. Can I go ahead and remove this and I also saw there are 2 lines that run into. Do I move those out as well?

I have a 98 GSX and there is a black box on the drivers side that is in the way. The piping runs right into it. Can I remove it and what the hell is it? It looks like it is AC related.

If i remember right it was 10-1 air fuel ratio. The O2 sensor was reading in the optimal range, which it was the stock one though. I think that 450's have a little more potential in them than everyone gives them credit for. I think that stock fuel system (lines, filter banjo bolt) is very very restrictive, i once read of a group of guys flow benching a stock fuel pump with -8an braided steel line, and it was outflowing a walbro 190 with the stock lines. That to me is pretty good evedence that just a fuel pump upgrade is not good enough, that you should be able to get more fuel to the injectors and run a lower duty cycle and run the 450's for more power. I have seen honda guys with 400 hp boosted b18's running stock dsm 450's before, that is some crazy shit, the motor is smaller and all, but it is still making 400 hp regardless and should require the same fuel, if tuned properly as the 4g63, to go with 400 hp worth of air. But as i said they were running under 90 percent untill 4th, than they overrun and fuel cut, than the wipers come on, it you know what i mean. Most of the shit people talk about ebay intercoolers and maft's and so on is all what they have heard from all of the other guys on the board. One or 2 people say something, (example that the maft is hard to tune with) and than everyone is saying that shit, when in fact it is very easy to tune with. Well don't try and tell those dsmtalk guys that. But i 100 percent give the ebay intercoolers 2 thumbs up.

90% idc with 25psi on a 60trim.. uhm no.. i run 680's with 24psi on a 16g and use 85% on the 680's...... i dont care what that logs telling you its bs.. when i run 24psi on my 16g im flowing around 37lbs/min.. 25psi on a 60trim is maxing the hell out of those 450's well over 100% IDC and probably running lean as hell, but other then this unknowledgeable crap said.. this thread gives good info. and comparing honda engines to our engines is pointless, they require way less fuel then our engines require...

It's on the driver side. It's a black box that has lines going to the back of the radiator.

edit: you sure your wording this right, a BOX? my first post said ABS system stuff, but I know theres no way thats in the way..
there is an ac condensor, radiator, and powersteering cooler stuff in the front.... but I never seen a box before in that area LOL

Is it an auto? Does it look like a tiny radiator? If so, it's the tranny fluid cooler.

It's a manual. This is the pic off GSXTACY's car. It looks like he got his to fit so maybe I need to do a little tugging.

geez i didnt think the piping would go that close to that area, but that area is where the abs system stuff is.. if you look in there you will see bunch of hard lines and etc.. if that other guy got his through im sure you can to.

I bent the bracket holding the ABS enough to get it to fit but it now looks like it will press against the front bumper when I put it back on. Did the other years place the ABS somewhere else because I've noticed on alot of the photos that its not there.

as far as i know all 2g's are in that area, but on the 1g's you will see it right beside the battery out in the open.

with this type of setup you have to get rid of the fogs dont ya? right now i have a 18row greddy which is kinda small.. could make quite a bit of $ by changing fmic's to.. and on the 2g kit its flanged for a 2g style bov isnt it ? :/

Nope, Flanged for a 1g bov, and you could drill it out to work with the Type-s.

nice i might be interested then, is there anyway to keep the fogs or no?
I have a greddy 18r fmic right now and if i can go larger and sell my fmic
i got now for an investment im definitly goin for it.. do you know if it will line up
right for a evo3 16g?

The headlights don't have to be removed in order to remove the bumper BUT...In order to remove the headlights you need to remove the bumper.

In this case with the XS FMIC. I would recommend taking out the passenger side headlight to have a better view/access of where to cut the radiator frame. so thats why you see some people with headlights on and off. Make sense?

headlights can be taken out easily without touching the bumper.. i had mine out 1000's of times.. all there is, is 2 screws/bolts at the top, then a few in the back.. there not attached to the bumper at all..

I'm looking at all the the 2g photos on this thread and none of them have it except GSXTACY's. Oh well, I'll get it to work. Are you guys even putting the bumper support back on. I think I'm just going to leave it off instead of carving it out.

naw, leave the bumper support off.. when i installed my greddy fmic like 8 months ago i attempted to hack it but believe me its not worth it.. leave it out.. its only for like 10mph impacts anyways.. and the bumper will NOT sag or nothing with it off.. so dont worry

hey guys,
how are you checking a connections between two IC pipes-Okay..we talk about silicon couplers and T bolts-mean if pipe doesn´t have stoper for T-bolt.
Hope you understand me:thumb:
Got this DIY pipes and don´t wanna weld all of connects:|
thinking to make just 2-3 small welds on one pipe.Don´t wanna blow pipe threw drag race.

No, there's no way you could keep the fogs... I'm almost thinking about trying to carve it out... I got backed into a week ago in my moms accord and it did a number on the front bumper... I couldn't imagine what the Core would have looked like if it would have been in the Eclipse..

Just curious as to how you guys cut out this black section right here. Pic in 2.2 minutes :D

cfisher: Only bracket I've had to bend so far is the one that my horn is attached to.

MarsaGSX: Are you speaking of the lack of beads of the ends of the pipes? Only way to find out if the clamps and couplers will hold w/o the beads is to get the piping run and do a boost leak test.
