I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

thanks for providing that pic to show where the side tabs should mount

i checked my car and i do have those holes as well.. but there is no way i can move the intercooler to have the tabs lined up either on the lower or higher one.. the tabs sit in between both of those holes.. i would have to drill a new hole.

that and if i position it to fit in the existing foglight holes.. there is no way my IC piping will line up correctly. i mean NO WAY. i lined up the ic piping first before mounting the core and the way i have it right now is the only way its going to work. if i line up the tabs to bolt on either of those foglight mounting area the ic piping will not line up.

maybe it was the way I positioned the core, but everything is straight. so i dont know. i would advice that you guys position the ic piping first to make sure your mounting the core so it lines up with it.

has anyone used the stock foglight mounting holes to bolt in the fmic brackets and everything lined up correctly? if so please post pics.

TX97GSX your picture is not working. But are you talking about the 90 degree pipe that goes from the turbo to the lower pipe? You are not the only one. I had this problem as well. Using it would not line up to the core, and as you stated would be 2 inches off. Luckily I had my dejon-tool lower ic piping set which had a shorter 90 degree pipe. I used that instead of the provided (still used the XS-Power lower ic piping) and everything fit perfect. BTW i have a PTE 50 trim turbo if that makes a difference.

I thought someone in this thread had mentioned using the foglight location with the XS Power kit, so I only assumed the pipes would line up. I have yet to run the pipes as I'm still waiting on some couplers and what not. I figured I could make use of my time and mount the IC ahead of time. It seems that my outlet is positioned very similarly to others, so I hope I won't have to remount it.

Have a look and let me know how it compares to yours.

I still don't see why you cant use the fogs.......Did you have to cut the bumper opening?

Anyone wanna PM me some advice? I'm a novice :D

If you look at the second picture, you will notice that the support bar that is on the intercooler crosses the area where the fog lights will go. It's possible to still have foglights if you lower the intercooler but then it will hang down way too low for normal driving.

so you mounted the core first by using the top tab right? Any special tricks to make sure its level and one side not being lopsided? But you do have to also cut the triangle deal where the hood latch is correct? It looks like the piping replaces the TB elbow, did you have to purchase a new gasket? Any other places you had to trim besides the Radiator support?

I just had a good eye when I mounted the middle bracket. You could use a level if you want it to be exactly straight. One thing I did notice is that it is a pain in the ass to get the coupler on the cold side intercooler piping since it was so close to the radiator. So what I had to do is unbolt the 2 brackets that held up the radiator so that it coud move over just enough to put my couple and tbolt clamp on. It took me over 4 hours to install everything because I didn't have the right tools and I kept on having to install things and then uninstall them because I forgot to do something else to make it fit properly.

^ $295 Shipped to your door. Just make sure youd on't use a money order or it will take three weeks to get to you :(

Did you have to get a new gasket when you replaced hte tb elbow or did you just reuse it? Can you get them from say autozone or Advanced Auto?

ok i just removed my front bumper..

here are my findings.. the intercooler mounting tabs are supposed to be lined up with the TOP fog light mounting bracket holes.. just as pictured by eclpsgsx97

with that done the core should be straight, i was moving it around with my ic piping on so yes the ic piping will mount up properly (maybe except the 2inch that tx97gsx mentioned)

the right side of my core does not want to be pushed back, but this is because the turbo elbow pipe is completely straight, i have to loosen up the clamp and let the pipe turn slightly so i can push the core back on the right side.

the pics that eclpsgsx97 and tx97gsx should be enough to show how to mount it. follow their pics, and your core should be mounted straight, you don't want it crooked like the first person who installed it.

Mehh!! Gotcha! So the foglight has holes that are installed into the support? You take out teh fogs, Drill holes on the mounting bars to accomadate the same size screw as the fog light hole? Bolt it in and your done pretty much?

I did not use the holes that the fog light left because it would not mount properly if I tried to use it. I drilled a hole on the passenger side and used a 5/16 x 4 inch bolt to secure it along with the bolt where the hood latch is. I was going to drill a hole on the driver side but there were way too many wires around so I decided not too and the intercooler still doesn't move anywhere with just 2 mounts. Also just to note, for those of you who are worried about the PS line, it will fit without a problem, you just have to bend it alittle. Heck I had double the worries because I have my Oil Cooler going to the same area and the core still fit on there like a glove. :)

I wish I had a sawzall at the time of the install, it would of cut down on the time to get it installed. I was using a dremel until it stop working then I was stuck with using a drill.

How about some of you ####'s help me get my front bumper off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2gb.. I've taken out the fender well liners, the side markers, the two screws on each side right beside the side markers, the 5 or 6 screws by the hood latch, the 7 or so on the bottom of the lip, the four plastic/rubber ones inside of the front bumper opening on the top where the plastic bar with teh slats goes across the top, taken out the three head light screws.. Now I cant get the front of the bumper to drop down enough to where I can get to the bottom head light screws..... Is there anything else I'm missing???????????

well, I redid my install. This time I mounted it what I think is the proper/right way to do it. I did what eclpsgsx97 and used the existing foglight bracket holes. It's now very secure and as straight as it could be.

How are the pipes lining up?

I just ordered mine tonight:D .Ive seen a few pics posted of you guys installing the fmic without taking the headlights out. I thought the headlight had to be off to get the bumper off.Am I incorrect in thinking this.

everything worked and lined up. Again, the lower ic pipe might be a lil' too long as me and another member stated. As I also stated I used my old dejon tool 90 degree pipe which is a lil' shorter than the one supplied from XS. So everything lines up. A post in this thread states someone cut their pipe to make everything fit.

The headlights don't have to be removed in order to remove the bumper BUT...In order to remove the headlights you need to remove the bumper.

In this case with the XS FMIC. I would recommend taking out the passenger side headlight to have a better view/access of where to cut the radiator frame. so thats why you see some people with headlights on and off. Make sense?
