Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

That's funny, my little side tab thingys are right up against that part that the bumper support goes to. Either my FMIC is mounted a bit higher, or the mounting tabs aren't all welded on the same.

still a sweet looking ride :thumb:

Yes the XOXO cores from ebay have had a couple of good reviews on this thread.

The SSAutochrome 1g kits have much longer piping than the 2g kit. It uses a crossover top tube like the Greddy kit for 2g's.

that is were i come in, mine should be here tomorrow. i am going to rebuild my 14b, and port the hell out of it, then i will clock the turbo so it faces down and use the stock j pipe, i will rebolt the j pipe in the opposite direction so that i can eliminate the u bend that they sell for like $45, and i can also eliminate the 90* bend provided in the kit. this should net about another 2ft off my piping length. this might take a little more work to get it to fit on my 1g, but it definately is worth it. i will take a lot of pictures while doing the install, i am replacing my spearco top to bottom flowing fmic with this intercooler, it should net me way lower intake temps.
later

I'll be definatley watching your review

i just got mine in today, like everybody mentioned, one of the couplers and 2 of the t-bolt clamps are missing but o well. all i have to say is wow, this is a great item for the price. definately a worth the money, now it is time to get this thing on my 1g :thumb: .

Mine was only $225 shipped, thats the price I can get them for. But I have the sbr install kit and the jpipe points in weird direction, and makes it hard to install the pipe to the intercooler, anyone else having this problem. Maybe ill just trade the evo3 for a t25 so it will be easier.LOL

91-gsx: PICS PICS PICS PICS!!!!!

Documentation of this thing will be GREAT!!!! And thanks for being the guinea pig!

The ####ed up thing is, I sent my money order last monday afternoon, and still they have yet to recieve my money? I'm going to go to the bank tomarow first thing and see if the check has been cashed and by who. If it has been cashed by them and they just havent shipped it, I will be making a two hour ride over there and kicking someones ass

can you show us pics
I'll try to take some pics ASAP, but I don't have a garage here in Hayward and I don't want to take off my bumper out in the open. I should've took pictures the weekend I mounted the FMIC.

Also, if any of you guys have a problem with the car running hotter than usual while at speed (like on the freeway), just cut out the black part of the opening of the bumper. I had problems the first couple days until I cut mine, then everything was fine. Most of you guys probably were going to do it anyways, but at least you now have a performance related reason to do it, as opposed to the "it looks better" excuse (even though it does look better :p )

Did anyone elses FMIC have this on the top of it???

Is everyone removing the PS cooling lines. There is one set in the front that is removed but there is also another set behind the radiator. Is everyone taking those out as well? Just curious.

its an 800 x 600 pic.. 100 pixel more than the limit.. are dsm owners running 640x480 desktop resolutions? LOL.. 1024x768 should be the standard limit these days.. LOL..

as for the PS cooling lines.. i didnt move them.. they run across the radiator behind the bracket.. however where it bends down is REALLLLLLY close to touching the core.. a lil bending here and there and it doesnt touch it at all.

-DSM2NR- i guess if you want to keep your fog lights that would work.. but you are paying $120+ for a more inferior kit.. it has a smaller core, it uses your current throttle body elbow from what I see is included in the kit from the picture.. and who knows if its short route piping unless someone wants to verify.. that and how big the piping diameter is.. but i guess fog lights are very important to some people, i never had them to begin with to worry.. :(
