I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Damn, maybe I should have just waited until I got my new paypal account set up... My money has been sent for a week and still nothing :(

yea man.. last time i remember using any kind of check/money order for online transactions was almost 10 years ago.. and the turn around seemed forever.. never again.. lesson learned.. :)

i attached some pics of my xs-power/ssautochrome kit installed on my 2g.. it was not as easy as i thought it would be..

also the stock recirculation tube managed to fit despite earlier concerns.. i have a dejon tool 3.5" intake pipe and greddy type s for reference.. you have to bend it just right, but it will work.. as you can see the 1g/forge flanged was modified to accomodate the greddy type s.. just followed the link that was posted earlier in this thread.. havn't got a chance to drive it around yet because im doing other maintenance things.. but so far so good..

Looks really good. I like the black piping, but then I LOVE the car, so it makes sense! Once all the maintenance is taken care of let us know what you think.

Good times. Looks really good and the price is right. Any word on a 2g fmic kit fitting on a 1g. (shorter piping in the kits).

the mounting tabs on both sides of the fmic i didnt use.. it is only being held up by the top tab.. can anyone show good pics showing how they mounted/drilled for the tabs? the tabs sit on the frame perfectly .. but it is a thick metal and would need a long bolt to go through.. unless there is another place you guys are mounting it to..

also where and how are you guys relocating the coolant resevoir? and if you guys can also provide some pics and any tips on what to use/how to do it.. the obvious is the old smic location.. but how to mount it is what im curious about

The intercooler came today. The packaging was great, it came in a box within a giant box filled with peanuts. The intercooler was at my door within four days. Its the 24x12x3 core, its 31 inchs across from end tank to end tank. It looks amazing and the quality looks good too. I wont be installing it till next weekend but here are some pics I took. I guess xs power and ssautochrome are for sure the same guy cause I ordered this from ssautochrome and it says xs power on the top.

That's the same one I got. $187 shipped.

I bought 2.5" aluminum piping from http://www.globaltecheng.com/alupipe.htm

The guy was nice. He just stated that they are an industrial supplier so they don't come poished or anything like that. They can do the bends for you though. I got a 6' stick, 4 90* radius bends and a 45* bend to do the short route, cost $103 shipped. They came a litte dusty, it was expected though considering who they normally deal with.

Then I picked up a aluminum TB flange from RRE for $20

$310 all together.....not bad.

I'm going to install next month.

So the bars (square tube) that stick out from the side of the IC, does it serve a purpose or did they put them on there just so you can't use the fog lights?

did you read the thread? those bars/tabs are suppose to be for mounting.. if you read a few posts up.. i question it and how people do this.. the metal that these the tabs sit right on is thick.. check it out yourself when you install yours.. you would need a pretty long bolt and a lock nut for the other side. if you look on the earlier pages of this thread you will see nice quality big pics of a talon with the core mounted.. showing where the mounting tabs would sit.. even had holes drilled in them already.. but they werent finished.. so the real pics that would help out were not available

anyone have pics and info on how they setup their coolant resevoir

I don't have any pics, but I mounted the side tabs into the holes where the foglights used mount into. I just used a longer bolt.

I was trying to make a funny......I guess I should of added a :D

Mine is the 24x12x3 core so it doesn't have thoses bars and I will be able to maintain my fog lights.

I guess you didn't read the thread cause there are a couple pics of coolant resevoir setups. I'll try to look back and find em for you.

In a few more weeks, SS Auto and I will be getting back together getting another GB for the 2g Kit. It will also include a 1g kit in the next group buy!!!! Remember and please take this into account, this current group buy will expire at the end of FEBUARY!!!!!!! But the next one will be sometime in March so it wont be too much longer after this one ends before you have the choice of a 1 & 2g Kit!!

Well I bought this one.
It will arrive on tuesday. I will let you know how it goes.

The reason why I bought it is becasue the weird intankes I have right now don't convince me in relation to flow.... But works as a Intercooler
Well I got the Intercooler Today the core is:
21 4/8" x 9 1/8" x 2 5/8" I have to say it looks really good... :p
Note: notice that the Thickness is not 3" as previously mentioned at the ebay page. Oh well I don't really care.

Now My car will have a clean mouth! :D

That 1g kit is with the long route piping correct?

titogs95, that looks like it's about the right size for my application, I think that the 9" high cores will be fine. I'm running a e16g on my '92. I will be interested to see how you route your piping. What size are you using? I was going to go with 2.5".

I am using 2 1/4" hard Pipe (stock is 1 3/4" so that size is not bad). I wanted 2.5" but I couldn't find a shop locally with the piping of that size. so, I cut it and design the route and a friend of mine weld it together. (cheap!) :D
The routing I am using right now is kind of long (on top of the Intercooler, instead of going arround the radiator. But, by thursday I will re-route the Intercooler pipe in a short way. I will try to take pictures about it. :thumb:

Awesome, I'd love to see pics of the current and the new setup as you are doing it. I have thought it out for awhile and I'm just trying to figure out final plans before I go ahead and get the FMIC and piping, so I know what to order.

Obviously you havent checked the thread out before htis huh? You could have gotten yours for 295 Shipped :tease:

Anyone else changing the color of the couplers to red?? I just don't like blue, to bad they didn't have a color choice. I'm still waiting on the package so I can measure the couplers and get new one. I'm also planing on replace my black vacuum lines with new red lines, using red wire looms on the power searing lines, and polishing up one of the the 3 spare valve covers. Cheap little $75 rice mods will get all the Honda owners to bust a nut.
