Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

i dont think you can request to change the color of the couplers.. however i did not try to ask.. i would just feel ashamed bugging them for such lil things when the price is so good..
i did not want blue either.. but oh well.. its not too bad.. buying a whole new set of couplers will cost a good grip.. perhaps $50-100 maybe.. these couplers are the good 4-ply ones correct me if im wrong.. so you should consider that a factor if you really want to get new ones just for the color.. make sure they are as good as the ones supplied.. so $50-100 for a new color.. is it worth it..

What did you guys use to cut the radiator support with? Keep in mind I don't have a dremel...
I did it the hard way and used a drill and some pliers and tin snips. I am so glad I work out, other wise 6 months ago I would've been screwed LOL

Any 1Gers order the 1G kit yet? buy it now for 359. Still doesn't seem like a bad deal. Is that a turbo outlet? Or the flange for the BOV, seems like the bov flange to me. I need to buy a J pipe and two couplers and T bolts? This is my DD so it cant be down more that two days. Whats average install time? I see that the 2G has real beaded ends and the 1g doesn't. Thats ok tho, I can do it at work. Aerospace company has all the tubing needs they just wont let up on the scrap. Haven't heard to much about the 1g kit. So far from my understanding you 2Gers have to cut a bit and move the water tank? Thats it? Seems simple, I got a plasma cutter! haha. Drill, cut and grind away boys. Thanks for your advice in advance.

When I get mine I will do a start to finish picture tech guide to spread the 1g love.

<-------------- location: Germany .. :thumb:

besides,i got a buddy get it for me,and itll be shipped to his PO box to avoid customs :rocks:

Raph--> Good job then! I always forget that some of you guys are in Europe and that even at $295 it might have been close to $425 with shipping and customs anyway.

RedTurboEclipse--> Since you didn't use the tabs on the side of the IC were you able to keep your fogs? I've been trying to figure out how to do this.

Well just got mine today, Came with 4 couplers, 9 to t bolt clamps, and 2 dents on the intercooler. Guess i cant complain for the price.

i have a 95 with full 97-99 conversion.. minus the foglights.. so it was never a problem for me.. might want to wait for a response from someone with foglights.. hopefully they can chime in on the subject

Mine just arrived:rocks: I haven't seen it yet, my roomate just texted me at work. I'll let you know how it looks.

I have an idea for keeping the fogs... I'll keep you posted;)

I have gotten 1 of 2 packages...I got the pipes and couplers. Looks quality although I am kinda worried about the size of my l-pipe from the pictures in ebay the l-pipe was larger, mines pretty small in terms of length. Hopefully its the right way. Also mine only came with 4 couplers and 8 t-bolt clamps. Hopefully with the intercooler comes 1 more coupler and 2 more t-bolt clamps. Ifi it doesnt oh well, I am getting a gmaft setup anyway so I wont be needing one of those couplers so if it doesnt come, then ill just wait to install till I get my setup..

If I can find some double A batteries for my camera ill take pics of the piping. Hopefully the 2nd part of the package will be here later today or tomorrow.

Ugh, I'm still waiting on mine to be shipped. I never should have sent them a cashiers check!!!!!!!!!!

LOL I paid saturday and my piping arrived mid-day tuesday...Thats the fastest shipping ive ever seen for ground...

If anyone's got a maft setup let me know!

Mine is also missing two t-bolt clamps and a coupler.

The BOV flange doesn't stick in too far on mine.

I still need to leak-test the core, but all else is great!

Yeah damn, it didnt come with the core, but the core is here. Took 3 business days to get everything here after sending in my payment (saturday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, paid saturday)

Pictures will come up as soon as I get two double a batteries...

damn.. who would want to buy the 800+ fmic kits now?

anyways it looks like all of the kits are missing a 2.5" coupler and the t-bolt clamps for it.. im pretty sure they are all pieced already so until we notify them and they halt the assembly line in china and tell them to make a change.. no one is getting that missing coupler.. its not going to be in the other box thats for sure..

as for the lenth of the "L"? pipe.. the length of the pipes are perfect.. once the core is mounted (properly) everything should line up just right..

Cliffs notes: The SSAUTOCHROME with short route piping is the best for 2g's
So far an XOXO core and custom piping is best for 1g's until someone
tests the 2g kit on a 1g

that is were i come in, mine should be here tomorrow. i am going to rebuild my 14b, and port the hell out of it, then i will clock the turbo so it faces down and use the stock j pipe, i will rebolt the j pipe in the opposite direction so that i can eliminate the u bend that they sell for like $45, and i can also eliminate the 90* bend provided in the kit. this should net about another 2ft off my piping length. this might take a little more work to get it to fit on my 1g, but it definately is worth it. i will take a lot of pictures while doing the install, i am replacing my spearco top to bottom flowing fmic with this intercooler, it should net me way lower intake temps.
later
