Now that I re read alot of post from the previouse, I realized a few of you said what I just said..LOL.. Didnt mean to steal the words out of your mouth's.. But I think this could work out just fine..

Honestly, my buddy says he should get his Bushur stuff early next week, and ill be helping him take apart his Evo9, the turbo and injectors, fuel pump and BOV or going home with me.. I really wanna take advantage of this setup, even with the twin scroll manifold.. Should'nt be disapointing at all..
 
Ive got a twin scroll evo 9 turbo sitting on the shelf waiting for the motor to go back into the car so i can fab up the manifold. Let us know how your setup turns out.
 
How about this idea.

If someone were to run a Gm 3inch mas sensor, and relocate the alternator, then run a smaller type cone filter off the comp housing of the evo 9 turbo, then make the custom down pipe... That should do the trick??

I mean, mount the turbo in its traditional way, and being how the alternator would be in the way, relocate it and run a filter off the comp housing.. And custom make a down pipe, and lower inter cooler pipe.. Seems like a good start to me?? Am I wrong here??:hmm:

It's been pointed out before, but the biggest problem with retaining the stock EVO manifold and facing the turbo toward the driver's side is block clearance. Even with the smaller VIII compressor housing, you'll need a 1" spacer between the mani and head for the comp. housing to clear the balance shaft tunnel on the front of the block. With the IX turbo, it'll be even worse.

The bottom line is unless you have the fab skills to make a mani and o2 housing, it's just simply not worth the effort (even then the cost of materials to do it kills the cost-benefit). You can buy an EVO3 16g for $500, slap it on, and make just as much power while spooling just as fast. Now that the HTA68 is out in a DSM bolt-on application, there's even less reason to try to re-invent the wheel here.

I see what your saying here.^^ Which should be enough reason to turn away and think of anther plan of attack? But not in my eyes..:sneaky:

To some people, they like unique-ness and the fact of having something that no one else has. Thats what I like. But my life is always a challenge so why not add another one to it?:hellyeah: Ill be spending $400-$500 on the evo9 turbo from my friend when we get his car taken apart, so spending $500 on an evo3 16g is not why I am turning that idea down. So to say that its not worth it, is your opinion, and maybe most of yours also?? But not mine:aha:. I think its totaly do able and worth it?

When I get it all done and running, every one will want pictures and for me to do a write up or something??Who knows at this point.


So, the turbo I am getting from my friend has a Megan SS o2 housing so that should make for a pretty strait forward fab for the downpipe to meet up. I have a good old school friend that builds hotrods out of scratch, and has some mad fabbing skills. He also works at a company calle Stainless Specialist's, so he can get the material I need so I wont have to worry about welding anything to cast iron, and having things crack due to diff expansion rates. I would have to say, that in about 1 months time, I can get the turbo successfully mounted, along with a working down pipe. If my Evo friend gets his Bushur products on time?? I cant promise it will be nice and pretty as for the welds, but it'll hold, thats for sure. I wanna do all the TIG welding myself, that way its my own work, since it is my car. My friend will just help with themock up, and all the tips ill need. I plan on taking pics through the whole process that way I can show you guys how its going..

Now, I am seriouse about this, and would like to know if there are any details or pointer you guys think ill need.. Sucks I have to get rid of my a/c to put my alternator in its place!!WTF

Believe me, I'm all about trying different things and not running with the herd. But I also think that if you're going to go through so much trouble the result should be rewarding. You're costing yourself time and money to accomplish exactly what an EVO3 turbo can do, I'd much rather put the effort into an other area. Regardless, if you or anyone else follow through and actually do it correctly I'd be interested in checking it out, just seems that at some point everyone who brings it up gives up.
 
about 1 year ago i started this on my GVR4 and was a few lines away from bieng done. SOLD THE CAR,

but id like to to see someone complete it and hear some feedback
 
Anybody got any updates on this? I still don't have mine installed because it's cold outside. Anybody else get theirs on yet?

So..... I put an EVO VIII 16G 10.5 on my truck. It goes pretty well. Anybody still interested in this? :)

Sure it's a great option for RWD 4G63's because of the placement of the manifold / turbo / inlet. A friend of mine was going to use the same setup on his 4G63-powered RX7 three years ago, but that project got abandoned due to lack of funds and time.
