Let's talk EVO III GT. No bashing please.

I don't think that Tom actually ran a true GT since he used an MHI Evo III 16G 7cm^2 exhaust housing on the thing. It can make a pretty big difference. I think it would be harder to hold high boost with the GT's ported wastegate.

Yes I ran the GT with a very highly ported MHI exhaust housing.
No I can not say for sure why the GT showed more airflow. But it did and the car went faster with less logged boost than with the MHI turbo.
The only change made was the turbo. But Jerry is right it there could be other factors like weather that came into play.
I am not saying the GT is better in any way.I just saying what it did for me.
I wish I had spent more time with it. I had thought it went bad and sent it back only to find out it was fine and i had a bad headgasket.
I had already made a deal to trade it plus cash for a 60-1. (hated that turbo)

I am happy to say that the GT will be going on the laser with the GT housing.
IT will hold the boost the same way the 14b holds the boost (hopefully).
With washer on the wastegate actuator. I think the larger flapper and the use of washers will give the turbo better boost control. But we shall see.
If not then the highlt ported MHI housing will go back on and I will report the results first hand.
I do believe that MHI makes awsome turbos.
At the same time though where would we be if people werent out trying to take factory parts and make them better. The aftermarket industry thrives on it.

Just wondering what the results were from the above test!!! How did the GT perform with the GT housing and washers? Where exactly are you putting the washers?

Is the GT housing really that bad?

so is there only one type of 16g knock off. I know turbocharger.com or whatever sells the evo III gt, but the ones they have on ebay, are those the same exact evo III gt's from the same exact factory, or are they some other pos knock off? I might get one just to hold me over for a while while I save up for something BIG. I bet it would be impossible to sell these things used though, since they are so cheap new.

btw, I always read that the turbine housing of the gt was bigger than the turbine housing of the mhi. Im sure if you ported the mhi you would see similar results to that of your gt. Although you could then just port your gt, and see even more top end I guess. However you look at it, the difference is most likely very insignificant, and if you look at it the way I always have, the mhi evo316g is a 14b with a lighter/larger compressor wheel/compressor housing/turbine housing, so the difference can't be that large seeing as it has the same turbine wheel with the same center section. If anyone has a blown 16g for sale, let me know, buying those three parts from fp is like 700 bucks btw, so unless you can find them for a decent deal, good luck with the conversion. I personally will most likely just find someone who's exhaust manifold cracked at the divider (more common than you think) and got lodged in the turbine housing and seized the turbo. I can buy that and use the compressor side, then I just have to find a 7cm turbine housing. All and all, you could probably pull it off for 300 dollars, although you might need to balance the turbo after your done, which would blow the price through the roof. Its something I'm willing to try though.

TD05H-20Gs have the same turbine wheel and center section. So there must not be much of a difference between a 20G and a 14B, right?

The ebay ssautochrome 16gs are terrible quality and hold no comparison to the evo 3 gt. I have seen both in person, on a table, next to eachother. The ssauto 16g's feel like fake metal, the blades are already scraping the housing, the shaft play is a mess, etc etc. Even if you have never seen a turbo before, you know this is something that will fail on your car immediately.

I was looking at an evo III GT from dynasty auto on ebay, has anybody had experience with them? Do they have good products or is their turbo cheaply made?

Do not get an evo gt from anyone but turbochargers.com or a legit Seller
the SS autochrome, Stone racing, dynasty racing, and others like it are not the same evo 3 GTs. If you look at pictures of the ebays ones they are different then the real evo 3 gt, I'll try to get you some pics............

looks like a good deal at $325

I installed one of the ssautochrome 16s here three months ago. Guy is boostong 15psi only but last I heard he has 2000 on it with no issues.

I also recieved possitive feedback on one of the larger t3/t4 turbos they sell. Guy has 1500 miles on that one with no problem yet.

Can anyone running this post what you're boosting and what rpm you getting that boost?

That deal for $325, what else is needed to install?

I have the evo gt from turbochargers.com. This thing pulls so hard up top. The only turbo I have to compare it to is the t-25. So I can't help out that way. I think it was worth the $699 for the "solution kit". I only have roughly 500 miles on it. I'm only boosting around 15-16 as it does want to creep. Also I have not put in the 560cc injectors sitting in the garage. I also need to get an afc before I put them in. Should be in the next few weeks. When 2500-3000 miles get put on I can update to let anyone who cares if its in good shape still.

How many pounds do you expect to be able to run with 560's and a EVO 16G?

There is no universal answer to that.
It depends on what other mods you have as well as how good of a tuner you are.

I am running the evo3gt from turbochargers.com and well good and bad...

Im running 22psi daily *of course supporting mods* and it pulls like a biotch! and holds to redline....

Im getting shaft play in / out / up / down of course i bought it used w/ 5,000 miles and ive put a hard 4,000 miles on it...

So i guess that final decission would be how soon you wanna tear the turbo off and replace it? LOL

I will say this i would buy another one just for the fact its ported out and already to go on...

I've had my MHI Evo III 16G on the car for over 3 years now, and probably around 35,000mi.

In fact, I haven't even unbolted it from the manifold in 2.5 years. The turbo is unported. Bone stock from the factory.

I expect it to go for another 35,000 at least. So, in 30,000mi, if you have to replace the GT every 10,000mi you will end up spending $500 * 3 = $1500. But I'm still on my first $560 (when I bought it) turbo. I don't think that trade-off is a good one, but that is just me. :)

Please note that I am not bashing, just giving facts.

a little info i didnt see posted about the turbo

1. While the turbo does have a 1 year unconditional warranty, the terms arent as you might expect. Basically if you purchase one and the turbo fails 11 months into your owning it, they send you a new one upon recieving it but your warranty on that new one will only last 1 more month. They do not reinstate it for the new turbo, they only offer a warranty for one year on the originally purchased turbo, while replacements are only warrantied from the same purchase date of the original. This is what i was told via phone from a sales rep.

Thats pretty much common sence.

I thought we were compiling all unbiased information about the turbo. I saw that noone really covered the exact terms of the warranty.

That was not perfectly clear to me and I assure you I have plenty of common "sence". So lets get back on topic.
