Leon,
where did your new found weight loss come from. 150lbs right? Was it one of your post that I read regarding obtaineing a lite-weight hatch, possibly fiberglass? I'm trying to secure a Fiberglass hood before my next outing.

Jose

Here is what I did to drop 150lbs:

-Light weight doors (http://newengdsm.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=113&highlight=weight+reduction) 75lbs
- Removed cat-back 35lbs
- Lighter, 15” rims 32lbs
- Glove box ~ 6lbs

Future plants for weight loss without going “nutty”:

Light custom brakes: 20lbs (I am working on those)
Rear hatch: 25lbs
Gas tank: 15lbs
Power Steering: 15lbs
Oil cooler/lines: 5 lbs.

That would put my car’s weight around 2470lbs.

If I do decide to go nuts:

Drive shaft
Tubular suspension/sub-frame parts
FG front clip.

But that is not likely anytime soon :). I am going to switch to a new motor first.

.........I do try to keep up on all the numbers. When I was younger I would memorize the summaries in the back of all the car mags like Car & Driver and I always knew what cars ran what. I probably know most of my timeslips off the top of my head. Anyway, yes, both Doug Derby and the late Jeff Carpenter were AWD, Doug's was a 92-94 black AWD Laser gold edition and Jeff's was a 92-94 Talon. Good luck hittin 11's Jose....

Leon,

What are your shift points? I'm wondering because back when I put my AWD/14b into the 12's I shifted at 6100 rpm. I read that worked best on a car with minimal mods, and it worked for me. Your car seems to have more than just minimal mods, plus the excellent tuning. Can the 14b maintain boost at higher rpm through better tuning? Thanks, and keep up the good work!

I posted my 14b dyno sheet earlier. It showed me making power all the way up to 8k rpms!!! But that was due to my supporting mods and most 14b cars will not be able to make power at such high rms.

You also mentioned about keeping the boost. Well those are not always 100% related. When I was dyno testuning my car with the 14b, my boost was dropping down to ~13psi 6000rpms or so, but I was still making power!

When I ran 11.84, last May, I tried a different 14b, which didn’t have any leaks before the WG and that turbo was keeping 20+ psi past 7k. When I put this 14b back in, this May, it never held the boost. It kept dropping to ~15psi. I think that it might be blown.

........you make it sound so easy. 11.75....115 mph is great. So, your 1/8 mile must be 7.49 or so. Never thought those FWD guys would run so quick. Definitely amazing. I wish my worst 60' was 1.64..... :thumbdown I have only hit 1.6's about 5 times total with 1.65 as my best, but, I do launch somewhat on the soft side along with my 1-2 shift. I guess I need to be a little more aggresive. Anyway, nice job!

ps-If Nate lightens his car 200-250lbs. he should be good for low, low elevens, if not a 10 second pass.

Actually Phil, I have something different in the works. Seems my junkyard 178K old engine has a loud tap now..I suspect rod bearing. So Im building a race motor capable of handling a TON of nitrous.

I have the NOS Pro-Race 4 port kit here with the nice angled dist blocks. 160, 200, and 250 jets oh hand. With a 250 shot, would speculate to mid 10's @ 130ish?

Also going to grab a plasma cutter and take some weight out. My car is ~300lb heavier than you guys and as you know...that .3 and 3mph right there. Thinking of doing the windows and a FG hatch/hood. I really don't want to spend a ton of money on this though.

I really want to get the car running again and shoot for the non nitrous record, seeing as that's where there is competition. (noone else I know of is doing a 14b/n20 setup but me)

It seems the fastest 14b time was helped by nitrous, but other than funds for a NX setup, there is a big worry on my part for my stock 150k engine and tranny and also me and my friends don't belive nitrous is exactly fair. But fast it is , congrats.
