Lap belt wont retract WTF

So i took a little drive tonight like any other night and when i got home and un buckled my lap belt i noticed that it just flew out the door into the snow insted of retracting like it normally does. So i figured maybe i twisted it in the little holder by the seat angle adjustment lever or somthing. Nope that was fine so i pulled it out another 2" or so to try and wiggle it back in but no luck. I sat out there messing with the darn thing for like 20 min before i gave up. now from messing with it the lap belt is all the way detracted and i tucked it in the backseat. How can i fix this stupid problem? i couldnt really see how to get at it but i was thinking about taking the drivers seat out tomorrow to get at it or somthing otherwise is this a common problem? the body has 200K on it and im sure thats the origonal belt. Either way somone let me know what i can do and if its safe driving with just the shoulder belt on.

open the door and close it. your door switch may be sticking also.

It could be the spring inside is broke.Just get one from a junkyard.You don't have to remove the seat.

no no, not the automatic shoulder one, the one you have to pull out manually down by the door sill. It just sucks its so random. Anything else i might be able to do to fix it insted of putting a new one in?
