1G Knock sensor wiring (power & ground?)

I am looking into how the knock sensor works. I know there is a white wire and a black/white wire. The black/white wire is a ground. Now, is the "white" wire a power or a ground type signal wire? I want to know if the "white" wire were to be grounded would that cause a knock count?

It is not an issue I am having on my car. It is just a question for personal knowledge.
