could a bad knock sensor cause the car to pick up 40+ counts of knock? i have replaced the fuel pump, ecu, fuel filter, i run 93 octane plus octane booster. Car is runnig 10 psi. but the car will randomly pick up anything from 7-48 counts of not not at WOT :( just at steady speed or steady accaleration(how ever you spell it) it started just doing it in 4th gear driving around 40 now it does it in every gear but only some times im thinking maybe a bad knock sensor, when it 1st started the other day when i would boost the knock would go down now it seems to stay the same under about 11% throttle or WOT the car has never done it before, well not knock counts that high and it was knocking before due to bad fuel pump. my mods are, k&n air filter, walbro 190 f/p, stock settings on everything stock ecu stock injectors, and open down pipe at the moment till i get my test pipe because my cat was all clogged up. so any ideas? bad injectors maybe? i have another set im just waiting for new o rings then i will put them in.

i am having the same problem, normal driving im getting lots of knock but actually running im getting 1 or 2 if not 0. let me know what ya find

yea, a new knock sensor from :dsm: is like $90 but hopefully thats whats wrong i dont want to pay 90 for somethign i dont need. but yea just watch this thread to see what people say. btw i like your gauge cluster how did you get it like that?

bought a kit off of ebay for like 25 bucks shipped. i liked that one better than the more expensive ones where the whole face lights up. was really easy to install them too.

here are some data from a couple times i logged the car with my pocketlogger
one of a few logs
RPM: 2906/ KNOCK: 34/ TIMING: 20 DEG/ AIR FLOW: 333HZ/ INJ. P/W: 4.10 mS/ THROTTLE POS: 23%/ o2 TRIM: 100%/ FUEL TRIM HI: 100%/ MID: 100%/ LOW: 125%
other log
RPM: 4531/ KNOCK:7/ TIMING:14 DEG/ AIR FLOW 1260 Hz/ INJ. P/W: 15.64mS/ THROTTLE POS: 69%/ O2 TRIM 100%/ FUEL TRIM HI:100% MID:100% LOW 121%
oTHER log
RPM:4656/ KNOCK: 3/ TIMING: 17 DEG/ AIR FLOW: 1423Hz/ INJ. P/W:17.95mS/ THROTTLE POS: 99%/ O2 TRIM:100% FUEL TRIM HI:100% MID100% LOW 100%

IS the 100% fuel trims meaning it's going +100% (all f it's range to try and meet the set values?) If so you've got a serious fuel starvation issue and that could be causing your knock. I know there's one setup that uses the stock ECU that 100% is actually just right and anything above or below it is a problem, but i'm not sure if that's DSMlink or what.

But, it could also be phantom knock, something i've seen a little here and there even on my car, but never to that degree.

yea my car is all stock tune, stock ecu, and it just randomly started doing this, but im putting new injectors in next week so we'll see if that changes anything

Before you buy any more parts, try running a bottle of Rislone... it's in a bright yellow bottle at your local Kragen Auto... It's basically an oil additive that will help clean out the gunk that usually ends up clogging stock DSM lifters.

and yea i work at advane auto parts so ill look for it today when i go to work

Yeah, just add to the oil. -put it in and go run it for a long while to get it circulating throughout the entire engine.

I did that about every other oil change regularly... Well that was on the stock lifters. Once I swapped them out for the 3mm revised lifters, I haven't even had to use it. -If anything, you should plan on getting some new lifters before the injectors

i never thought about my lifters being the cause of the knock even though they do make a little noise. gonna have to try that

it's usually the old/clogged lifters that register the random knock otherwise known as "Phantom Knock"... Try cleaning them with the Rislone and see if it helps any. -Always try the simple schit first guys.

What I've found is that is will help somewhat on the first treatment but it took me about 3-4 treatments before the knock was back under control. In my case, the pantom knock was so bad that even on initial throttle tip-in, the knock counts would skyrocket up to 43! Even if I babied it! -I'm talking like 1500 - 2k rpms, no boost WTF

i have to ask this why the heck are you running 93 octane with octane booster on stock boost and with a stock setup? that can cause issues

i was because last time my knock count was high it was the gas so i put octane booster in it and it ran better, so i put it to see if it would run better

this stuff? <a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/2964/oilnj7.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/></a><br/><a href="http://g.imageshack.us/g.php?h=137&i=oilnj7.jpg"><img src="http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/2964/oilnj7.865a2441f2.jpg" border="0"></a>

i bought the oil stabalizer put it in my car, ill let you know how it works once i get a new valve cover mine broke tonight

That sucks... But yeah, that's the stuff. -it looks like smurf piss LOL Run a few treatments of that stuff through your oil system and begin to start enjoying less phantom knock! -This stuff is kind of a band-aid, so I'd seriously recomend that you guys consider getting into a set of revised lifters... If the problem still persists then go with either: EPROM chips with the PK elimination code or a DSMLink

I have the same problem but it was kinda random. Then, it got worse month after month. My knock sensor was loose and had the goo leaking. I replaced it the other day with a new mitsubishi knock sensor. Now, I have the 43 counts of knock 90% of the time. I drove 400 miles round trip Friday and Saturday and it was beyond annoying. I will loosen the knock sensor a bit tomorrow, it may be too tight. If that doesn't work, I'll try cleaning my lifters.

yea there is a certain torque it has to be or it will pick up to much phanton knock, not tight enought it might not pick up real knock
