Just wondering why are the rules so strict on this site

first off i am really glad this site exists and thie site helped me a lot when i had my two eclipses but...
I am just wondering why the rules are so strict here, you can't post certain things certain things like words and you can't voice you real opinion just water'ed down G rated ones. also it seems like new members are having a hard time trying to sell stuff. and i know for a FACT that nobodies reads ANY of the rules for posting and starting new threads and what not. I'm scared to say anything now like i can on SRT-forums, and here you can't even post NICE BIG PICS of your ride i mean wtf how can you show off with a thumbnail size pic?? i can go on SRT forums and post a 2000x2000 size photo if i want that way people can actually see what the picture is of... We are all adults why can't we just say what we want, when peopel ask for other members opinions on stuff duh of course not everybodys goign to like your new body kit or wing but why can't we say it here.
and so what if somebody doesn't search and if they do they might want to ask about soemthing another user didn't cover in their post. i never wanted to resurect a 2 year old thread and get bitched at get a "this has already been coverd" reply. just let people start new ones once in a while

The rules exist to enforce the common sense that the majority of this site seems to lack.

I would love to be able to debate topics with people, unfortunately, history has proven that they degenerate into flame-fests here. The fact is, a lot of people here aren't adults, or choose not to act like one.

Photo's are capped due to bandwidth reasons, not everyone has DSL or a similar high speed connection.

As for newbies being able to sell items, we have prevented them from doing so in order to reduce the amount of scamming that happens. Originally they could, but it was abused (like many other things) and we decided to negate that liability.

You can voice your opinion if it is done so in a mature matter.

man i didn't know they were scamming but i guess that makes sence. well i still suggest a way to post bigger pics like with a link so peopel with faster connection at least they can view them. i swear the bigger the pic the better for instance: when trying to find out what vaccum line goes where when your trying to put your car back together and what not makes all the difference in the world. more detail the better.

It's a very reasonable question, and when you hear our answer, you will find it's reasonable as well.
I am just wondering why the rules are so strict here,
The easiest answer is that "they have to be". In the world of online forums, DSMtuners is a huge one. I don't know if there are a hundred that are larger in membership, nor more active in daily postings. The site is owned by a grownup whose livlihood derives from its operation. It's similarly moderated and mostly advanced by those who are a bit older, or at least a lot more mature. I don't know if you've been on many car sites, but very many of them are just circuses. They're run by younger people who don't much care whether the site thrives or not, because they're just doing it for fun. It doesn't matter to them. The DSMers who wind up here are the ones who care too much about these dopey little over-powered, overweight, underpriced road rockets. As each day dawns, every DSM not only gets that much older, but also that much cheaper. We have many, many members here who've been dreaming of owning one since they were ten and younger, and who have only this month gotten together the money, license, and advantage of depreciation to finally be able to get a DSM.
You might notice in looking over this site that things are pretty orderly and well-arranged. No huge signatures, no titty-flopping nudie avatars, no "humping Honda" crap. The site is run so that if our mothers, grandmothers, daughters or preachers stop by to see what's going on, they'd approve. It's a daily challenge to keep things above-board with so many young people coming on board, and often people with less than savory personal limits on conduct.
you can't post certain things certain things like words and you can't voice you real opinion just water'ed down G rated ones.
Oh, I don't know to what extent that's accurate. You can have some pretty extreme opinions, but you're not going to easily be able to cuss your way through them. And, if they're political, we don't want to get into it here. Too many opinions are too strong when you get into that side of things, and we don't want people hurt by what they read here.
also it seems like new members are having a hard time trying to sell stuff.
They used to be able to. They demonstrated they couldn't be trusted to do so freely, and now there's a requirement that they show at least some intent of dedication and ethics before being allowed to put things up for sale here. If you want to scam, try eBay, and hope the law doesn't come down on your head. Even with these safeguards, there is the occasional sonofabitch who gets through, but even those are dealt with in ways that won't be elucidated upon.
and i know for a FACT that nobodies reads ANY of the rules for posting and starting new threads and what not.
So we know. At those times, when found, I often remind them of certain points of DSMtuners etiquette.
I'm scared to say anything now like i can on SRT-forums,
Good. We don't want this place to be like SRT, Honda, Subaru, or even most other DSM sites. We have far more members who stay with us because they agree with our ground rules, and those who run away because they don't aren't wanted here in the first place.
and here you can't even post NICE BIG PICS of your ride i mean wtf how can you show off with a thumbnail size pic??
700x700 is hardly thumbnail. For larger, you can make the image a link to a larger picture on another site.
i can go on SRT forums and post a 2000x2000 size photo if i want that way people can actually see what the picture is of...
That's swell. I run 1024X768 on my monitor, so I'd almost get to see half your image. Why bother?
We are all adults
We aren't- we have a large number of kids on here. Some who are well-over 21.
why can't we just say what we want, when peopel ask for other members opinions on stuff duh of course not everybodys goign to like your new body kit or wing but why can't we say it here.
To an exent, you not only can, but are welcome to. But telling someone it's bad because the difference between that body kit and a bucket of shit is the bucket probably won't be allowed. Nor is it of any use. Comments of that ilk are only meant to be hurtful e-thuggery, which we filter out from here as much as we can. If you be nice to people, they're more likely to be nice back. It makes all things move along more smoothly.
and so what if somebody doesn't search
Then frankly, they have no business being on the web at all, let alone on this site.
and if they do they might want to ask about soemthing another user didn't cover in their post.
I defy you to find an instance where that's actually happened. It's spoken of a lot, it's often brought up as a defense for someone's laziness, but if new and valid questions are actually raised, they are always welcome.
i never wanted to resurect a 2 year old thread and get bitched at get a "this has already been coverd" reply.
Do you believe asking the same questions repeatedly is of some benefit? Please explain how it might be.
just let people start new ones once in a while
New topics and new threads are always encouraged. Repeating on a weekly or monthly basis that the circus tent means you're low on coolant or washer fluid, or that the windows have to be unlocked to work gets to be very, very old after the first fifty times.

Looks like the Moderators stated every point I would have made myself. Thanks guys.

To sum it up: we hold our members to a higher standard than other sites. We are more strict because we care about the quality of our information and the interaction between our members, and we care a great deal about the survival and growth of the DSM community. We want everyone to learn something while they're here and have a good time doing so, both newbies and veterans alike. We are NOT all adults here, and we have to be strict because common sense isn't always used. And for those who don't read the rules, well, they'll end up reading them sometime - hopefully before they get banned.

Yeah, what all the mods said above ^^^.

Huh?

To The Top, or at least that's what I take it to mean. Its just a way of bumping a thread, and well this one does not need to be bumped. Not to mention the fact that bumping threads is against the rules.
