might be cheaper to have the dealership make a key.
yeah probably...put the extra one in ## wallet next time though...works for me ### when im out my wallet is always in my back pocket

i have an idea. im going to open my sunroof and put a big stick threw it to unlick my door :sneaky:. i hope it works. ima tap a hanger to the sunroof and pull it open LOL.

Call the police and they'll open it for you (they did for me on a few occasions in college). Just make sure you have your license, registration, and proof of insurance and that the car is yours and not something you stole:p . It's free, and they're always "on call".

not in this car but in a car wih the same trunk/gas popper setup i got something looped around and popped the trunk and climbed through. I'm good at getting into cars from my "past life" :coy: so if you REALLY wanna know how to get in amd it can be worth some points i'll go out and have at it for ya.

haha I've locked my keys in my car and lost them so many times. Don't call the police unless you dont care about the paint job in your door jam. but if your shovving a hanger in it it'll probably do the same damage. someone told me the firedeparment before, but i dont know if you should really bug them. i think it cost 50 bucks for someone to unlock the door. Dealership cost about that for a new key, but they only have the key code for models 95+ . I lost my keys a couple weeks ago(had lost the spare in my move) and i had to pay a locksmith to come out and take my door apart, cost me 125, luckily AAA covered 100 of that. last time i locked my keys on the job, i got a prybar wrapped it with cloth and wedge my door open ever so slighty so i didnt have to jam something in there scratch it and mess up my weather stripping. then i cut out a peice of rebarb/concrete wire to push open the lock, i imagine a coat hanger might work, seems a little flimsy

if it's a 1g (in your profile) just pick up a cheap slim Jim, it's pretty easy to get the door open with one if you have never tried. It may take you a few minutes the first time, but once you get the hang of it, it only takes you about 5 seconds to open it and it won't mess up your paint.

The police will use a slim jim.

hmm i think it was a slim jim the cop had, but it sure as heck scratched the heck out of my door jam, he couldn't get it past the weatherstrip on the driverside so he went in on the passangers, but both sides are very visibly scratched. The cops make you sign a waiver first saying they arent responsible for any damages they do. i dont think they know what they're doing but maybe i just got a retarded one? haha. I reccomend getting AAA, i've easily spent over 200$ in services with my 100$ premium membership. and i still have a good 5months left on it! they're great

well i ended up banging on the sunroof until the lock thing fell down and i pulled it open with a hanger taped to it and used a broom to push the lock open. not a bad idea hu hu LOL. aight thanks for every ones help ,:D

Wow. I would have taken off the weather stripping for the window. It's actually very easy to put back on.

Like someone before me mentioned, AAA. If you have it, its covered for free.

i recommend getting a copy or 2 of ## keys from Walmart only cost 1 dollar.... will save u the problem of this happening again.

This forum ROCKS!! I just locked my keys in the car and with the above information I was able to get my keys out.

I was a little worried about pulling the window back but it actually worked. I was super careful in pulling the window back.

Thanks DSM!

If you have a copy of your registration take it to the dealership and they will cut you a key. Mitsubishi charged me $10 for mine. Now I have 2 keys. :rocks:

i have yet to use my eclipse but I do I have a hyundai tiburon which is also a hatch and i find it takes me 30 seconds to get in. All i do is join two hangers together make a nice hook and pick on the trunk opener which is so easy.

LOL..i just locked my keys in my car yesterday..
i used a screwdriver to pry the window..and then with a metal hanger i pushed the unlock button..worked for me..
good luck:thumb:

get a spare key and keep it in the fusebox under the hood. anyone steals my car, i'll kill everyone on this board.
that would be a good idea..but how do you pop your hood when you're locked out:confused:

I totally used a coat hanger to get back into my car several times. If that doesn't work well then call a locksmith they are not even expensive.

I did worst, I actually lost my key to my eclipse, and went to the dealer and got a master key for $10. Any good locksmith can get the key done for you, Mitsu gives you the key after you provide your registration of course, and then the code for the key. It preety cheap, I paid $30 in total. Its not a chipped key, those are much more expensive.

For everyone out there with a 1G and electric locks:

Don't bother trying to use a coat hanger to flip the lock switch because you may do more damage to your trim than a 2G (no button)...much easier to bend a loop in a coat hanger, stick it down to the trunk release, and pull the hatch up. Just wanted to throw this out there. it happened to me and I spent 30 minutes trying to get the door to unlock..had the trunk idea..and it took 3 minutes after that.

Hope this helps some!

This thread helped out a lot today. Locked my keys in the car with the car still running...

First thing I did was freak out then came on here, grabbed a coat hanger and within a few minutes the door was open.

It is really quite frightening how easy it is. Never going to keep anything of value in this car now.

Now I just need to learn how to hotwire my car LOL

haha ok so yesturday just got home and my girlfriend was talking blah blah wasnt paying attention well right when i opened my door she pulled my phone holder off my visor wich distracted me from pulling my keys out and its just a habit to reach over and lock the door as im getting out, when i got out of the car it was still running wich is normal for the turo timer, it is set to 30 sec. befor shut down, get to the door i dont have my keys, i instantley know where they are, in my car and they are still in the ignition with the car running, i forgot to turn the ignition to off to begin the timer. so to retreive your keys you will need long needle nose pliers and a wedge, work up the black stripping at the base of the driver side window right above the handle, the stripping that often goes from black to shiny metal to rust LOL. stick in the wedge to keep it pried open enough to get the needle nose down to the lock cylinder, pull the push bar out of the locking clip attaching it to the lock cylinder, and push down on the rod, the door should unlock. to reinstall the rod just remove the door panel and reconnect the locking clip to the push bar to the cylinder, and if your car is still running like mine is, get under the rear of the car and disconnect your fuel pump to shut off the car. i hope this helps for anyone that locks there keys in there car like i did, i would have posted pictures on how to do this, but at the time that was the last thing on my mind:thumb:
