Wetsand with some 1500 grit then repolish... Should look a bit better ;)

Mines all bent up so it was difficult to get every nook, but it turned out alright.

wow great job guys looks sweet... i want to do something like that as well.. chrome the heatshield (or make my own) and chrome the valve cover and paint the lettering red.... and do something with the spark plug cover not sure yet... any steps on how to do a good job? ive never done it before.. i know a lot of sanding is involved... but how do you go about doing a good chrome and polishing job and painting it? suggestions on products? better off taking it to a professional place?

I had mine done by a pro since its chroming, but for polishing, you need a lot of elbow grease if you don't have a polishing wheel, it kinda looks like them electric buffers they use for the paint but a lot smaller. start with 1200 grit on the smooth stuff already like the pipings, 600 up to 1200 for the plastic stuff like the camcover

Okay so i polished my heat shield and someone told me not to use hi temp clear coat, and that it would melt it off.

Will it discolor if i throw it on just like that?

Aluminum will oxidize again from being bare so it will need an occasional repolish with some liquid polish every now and again after you install it back on the car...

Generally aluminum doesn't discolor but stainless will. I'll be honest with you, I don't know what the heat shields are made of that come on the cars. I know the aftermarket ones are stainless though a lot of the time. Stainless won';t really oxidize or anything, it just sometimes gets a yellow/goldish tint from extreme heat.

I polished my heat shield as well and I was surprised how it end up, It looked like it was rusted and after polishing it, it was looking good, Also, a couple of days back, my oil dipstick broke again:banghead::banghead::banghead:, The plastic is dam weak and brakes so easy, I know the 1g's are way better then the 2g's, but seriously, I don't like the look of it, so I made my own dipstick from a peace of crap aluminum that was left when I did my Brembo brackets.

I will post pics of the dipstick, hopefully it will last for ever.:sneaky::sneaky:

As promessed, here are some pics of my DIY dipstick handle,

Excuse my heat shield, last time I polished it was 8 month ago, but not bad for that long of unattended heat shield.
