I have been looking for one of those CF or fiberglass shields that go around the rear exhaust cut out on my bumper. I have never seen one for the 2g but I see them all over for EVOs and WRXs. I have a friend that does CF and fiberglass work and he said that he can make them if there is enough of a demand. would anyone be interested in these?
if anyone knows where to get these already made it would be helpful. other wise I'll just have my friend make them.

on a side note
(this has nothing to do with this thread, just a funny that happened to me just now)

There I was looking through Craigslist for eclipse parts and someone is looking for an all black interior for an eclipse. hmm, well I notice its a non turbo (no hate) and ask why he is going through so much trouble to change the interior on a NT car.

"well I have a 420a with forged pistons and a turbo kit(not installed) and its better than the 4g63 because it wont throw rods.
I can boost 16 pounds and beat any turbo eclipse with a 20G"

???WTF???

he then says that the 420a is the more prefered by the tuner world!

then why is there still a 4g63 in the evo pal:rolleyes: ?!

anyway,
Micheal phillips in Oceanside I hearby declare you...STONED!

I've never seen one on an 2g either, but i could really use one!
the exhaust i have occasionally melts the rear bumper right above it, the paints blistered around it and every once and a while it taps the bumper and you can see that it melts into the plastic. i haven't done anything yet because you cant see it unless your close. I was actually thinking of having one of my friends fab one out of aluminum and riveting it on. could carbon fiber or fiberglass really take that kinda heat, i know i depends on the resin but it just seams like if I'm melting the bumper why wouldn't that melt or discolor the resin?

I was thinking that it would melt too, but it seams to work fine for those other cars that have them. I don't have a burning problem form contact, but The exhaust does leave black on my bumper and it starting to melt though the paint.

Why don't you just take one off of an EVO or WRX and fit it on to your bumper? Go check the local junk yards or search for them online. If you get one off of an EVO or WRX you'll most likely have to do some cutting to get it to fit. I'm sure they wouldn't put them on the cars if they were prone to melting, so I'm assuming they won't, I don't know for sure though.

Here's one off an EVO for $60 on Ebay. If i were you, I'd go to a junkyard or go to an EVO specific website and check their classifieds.

because the evo exhaust is on the right side of the car and would therefore be angled wrong and the wrx has a flat bottomed rear bumper. sorry neither is a good option.
He's quoteing me at 100 for a CF shield that is made to fit a 2Gb rear bumper. Id rather have one that was made for my type of car than rigging something from another car.
thanks though.

yea i agree with ya their, no sense trying to rig one up from a different car it would be a pain in the ass to make it work. I'm still leaning toward the metal option my self, seems more functional/ practical to me.

I don't know how the hell it makes sense to quote you @ $100 for such a small carbon part... i worked with alot of carbon at the shop i worked at over the summer and for the size of the part your talking about you really could make it out of a piece of scrap... I just don't get the insane price hype over carbon fiber parts... its easy stuff to work with, if you buy it in bulk the prices are not as insane as most people think... i don't get it.

Sorry, i didn't think about that or notice it. Sorry again.

You already answered your own question.

You need a bumper shield like that. I have seen universal mufflers that come with a thin layer of mountable SS sheet around the muffler exit on the bumper. That is what you need.

I don't think they sell anything car specific, at least for our cars. So maybe get a thin bendable sheet and mount it on the bumper exit. I seriously would not pay too much for something like this.

What kind of catback exhaust do you have to begin with? Maybe check to see if you can mount it better so its not so close.

The guy must've meant to say crankwalk.

Seriously, I didn't buy a 4g63 because of the crankwalk. I would be hella pissed if I dropped $4k into the motor and it crankwalked on me.

I've owned both 3 4G63 (only AWD) and 3 420A's. One was turbo'd. and my 420A Turbo was faster then almost all the 4G63's in the state minus a few that... I hardly doubt I could ever touch in a race! My 95 had a FMIC, 20G, some ebay coil overs and some 550cc injectors and a few other little odds and ends and besides the AWD Launch, I'm pretty sure my black car could have taken my GSX. And I know damn well it would have spanked my 90 GSX and 91 TSI AWD... Now the car I own... is just another slow non turbo... And I'm changing the interior out to all black as well! I'm spending tons of money on my non turbo. Sure I want to get a 99 GSX... But I'm in no rush, Soon my NT will be fast enough for my needs, like my black one was. May she rest in peace!

edit, btw my 95 Walked on me. The 90, well lets just say you should never let your morron friends drive it, she came back with a cracked block and a totaled turbo (the shaft was broken in the middle!). And the 91, well she was nice except for the looks, and I sold her to someone... they fixed her up, and then the motor went bye bye.
