has anyone made a fiberglass heat shield? if not why not is there a reason why? fiberglass has great heat retaning properties. I might just give it a shot just want to know if there was any reason why it hasn't been done.

thanks

I did an acrylic one. Never got around to making a better fitting one.
I think if you were going to cover it up, why not just cut the stock airbox. That's why I went with something clear.

on the exhaust manifold what if the part which it would mount to the manifold was metal. but I guess your right 1600 degrees would melt almost anything. and othere materials that could be used to make a heatshield and withstand the heat?

thanks

for the manifold, some thin steel / sheet metal would work nicely... but why not just buy the stock one... it fits and is already made

for the intake; sheetmetal, fiberglass, lexan, all nice choices, and if done properly, can not only add performance, but looks as well IMO

anyone got pics of other intake sheilds? i'm thinking of making one over winter while the car sits, and need some ideas. i thought about fiberglass, but am considering lexan more, i like the "see-thru" ability. looks very good w1kk3d!

I just use thick cardboard on the intake. It's free, and easily replaceable should it be damaged. Works like a champ, too :thumb:

I use the OEM heat shield for the exhaust manifold. It's cut to facilitate quick removal/installation, though.

Here are some of mine. Its black now ..

Anyway .. i ended up putting a bunch of layers of aluminum foil under neath it. I took it out and duct taped layers and layers of foil to the underside to disapate heat. Its nice cause the foil keeps the heat away. I can run the hell out of the car and get out and touch the box and it will still be cold.
