Well I thought it was about time to upgrade my 99 eclipse gs, LOL.
So I bought a 98 eclipse gst. I got her for $3,000 even. 140k miles on it.
I plan on doing Maintenance on her first.
Any advice or comments on the photos please.

The missing connection is for your AC. Looks like the Condensor to compressor connection.

Also, get that battery secured/tied down. You don't want it arcing against the hood.

Good looking car. Sounds like your on the right path with the maintenance. To fix the coolant go to Walmart and buy a flush kit and some antifreeze. Be sure to be easy on her. 140K modded miles. =(

I wouldnt be surprized if your a/c doesnt work? Since you live in Virgina it probably isnt used much? If you feel like you need it, then your gonna need a new pulley for that condenser new belt, frion etc. Of course if you feel like you can do without then remove the whole thing and be done with it. First thing i would do is a boost leak test, do a search if you dont know what im talking about. It looks like the lower coupler to the intercooler is not attached properly or did you remove that for the picture?

Otherwise grats on your purchase!

You know where I could get a Condensor to compressor line?
also a battery tie down?

eBay the line and by battery tie down he means bungee strap. :p Just hook it somewhere and wrap it around the battery to hold it in place.

EDIT:

Battery tie down can be had at any parts store basically. I might have the AC line laying around in my garage I'll part with for a few bucks. I'll shoot you a PM tomorrow.

It looks like the basic BOV, intake pipe & filter.

Not big mods but still worse then none.
GST = Drove Hard, GST /w Mods = Even Worse.

Seems like a clean car. Nice find. Good idea starting with the general maint. stuff. Another good idea is to def do a boost leak test and I personally would look at getting an upper timming cover if thats only peice thats missing. Just not a huge believer in running without one!

Yea I really dont like the carbon race lights, Stock looks so much better.
As for the timming belt cover, I was thinking of getting the clear on that a vendor sales on here.
I just have to build my bank back up after droping 3 grand to get her.

Is there an exhaust leak at the manifold? Maybe a valve cover gasket leaking? I don't know what the burnt brown spot in the middle of the valve cover is but those would be my first two guesses. Figure out what that is then you should get a heat shield on there.

Is it missing a turbo bolt? Just noticed that too

Yes, Get oem tails. You should really get the manifold to turbo bolts. Looks like you only have one on there. That can cause lag in the turbo (exhaust leak) Yes, I would also do a boost leak test.

Need to Do:

1. Buy turbo to manifold bolts (looks like you only have one)
2. Flush and refill coolant
3. Change Oil
4. Boost leak test

Want to do:

1. OEM taillights
2. Buy upper timing belt cover
3. Buy upper hard piping
4. Fix A/C

i just want to add that you also need to fix the dents at the intercooler and clean it as it looks nasty. get another one if possible from the scrap yard.

put the heat shield back on and the timing cover and please change those damn tail lights its giving pain to my eyes. ROFL

good luck with it

I would just stay with the oem bolts. The next question is whether or not they are broken off it the turbo or completely out? I would think with only one bolt in there that thing would be tryin to jump off. That would definately cause your turbo to feel slow and lazy, any exhaust leak before the turbo will.

Very good advice but i would also add on to buy new gaskets (Cometic:thumb:) and check your injectors to make sure they aren't leaking, check your plugs, make sure they are the right ones:hmm:, and take off your air intake and check your turbo for shaft play. Doing all this is free only excluding the gaskets, this will let you know how much you have to put down to fix your new baby. O and change your fuel filter, definitly that:ohdamn:.... and i just noticed, change the o-ring seals, oil cap, and and PCV valve. After you should be in good standing and ready for the other check up's that consider a little more money, and to go back to square 1, you need to get your car a timing belt to be safe and re-time the car, your timing marks are way off....

NEED TO DO

... TAKE A PICTURE OF IT NOT ON JACKSTANDS...

ENJOY A LONG HEALTHY RIDE.. BEFORE ITS ON JACKSTANDS...

MEMORIZE THE PULL of a good runnin DSM.. before its too late...

your already a boost addict... consider rent second to YOUR DSM...

LOL

nice find broseph...

WANT TO DO

not worry about when my tanny's goanna go.. or X-case

PS... DON"T YOU EVER WORRY ABOUT CRANK WALK.. the most OVER TALKED ABOUT FAKKIN thing ina dsm is crank walk.. less than 1% of all 4G63 engines ever built did...

NICE FIND... GOOD LUCK MAN

oh yeah.. Timing marks aren't off.. they look that way.. the crank isn't on TDC.. its just a random pick of the cam gears.. and they both are on ....

There is a lot of exhaust soot all around the manifold. Is there even a gasket between the head and manifold? Kind of hard to tell.

As mentioned, get a battery tie down (not bungee cords) and a cover for the positive battery terminal ASAP.

For the manifold-turbo bolts I definitely recommend oem bolts.

Oil cap gasket.

Nice find. Everyone pretty much already told you what needs to be done. So, get it done and enjoy your new ride.

Just a word of caution about switching to full synthetic engine oil:

Synthetic oil is much cleaner than conventional (mineral) oil. There aren't minerals present to "plug up" small leaks in gaskets. So if this is the first time that the car has been filled with synthetic, expect oil leaks around gaskets (especially with 140k on her).

On the bright side, this is a quick and easy way to find leaks and bad gaskets and get them replaced. Good to see that you're doing maintenance first. Good luck and enjoy your new car.
