Haven't mounted it yet. I'll take some pics when I do though. I just took out the stock cooler and looped the nipples together so I could get the I/c mounted. After I make/install the i/c pipes, I'll install the cooler.

First impressions of the IC... Put it on today finally after not having access to a saw for the last couple weeks. Install went better than expected. Took it out and didn't notice a difference but then I saw I was only at 10psi. 10 felt like 16 used to. turned it up to 14, felt GREAT. Turned it up to 18 and blew hose clamps all over the road because of no beads yet. After the 18psi up to 5K run, I felt the pipes and the inlet pipe was HOT, almost too hot to touch, which sucked cause I couldn't really put the pipe back together... Outlet was ice cold. As cold or colder than outside air temp which was in the mid 70s today.

I used to get pretty bad knock in the high rpms with the stock smic due to heat soak. Even after leaning out my a/f 10% after my install, still no knock at all. This thing sure does do the job.

I don't have flow numbers, psi drop numbers, or dyno nubers(yet) but from experiance using it and the overall constrution, it's a great intercooler. Two thumbs up.

btw, kept the fog lights. Had to cut the bottom of the bumper support a little bit but I cut a pretty big chunk out of it in order to allow good airflow to the radiator. No overheating problems what so ever while on the high way, around town, hard pulls, anything. I've got AC and PS if anyones wondering. had to trim the bumper cover a little... that's all of the other details I can think of.

If your not sure about pressure drop, why did you boost drop to 10 psi? What was it at before the install?

Sorry should have clarified. I had turned the mbc all the way down when I first took it out. I forgot I did when I started going WOT

Spool up seems the same.

I've got some pics but I'll have to post them later.

WHy did you cut your bumper? Do you plan on finisihing it somehow? Did you just use a saw-zaw or dremel to do that?

Could you have mounted the core a little lower?

Let me know how that thing feels once you haev it mounted up.

Travis W.

yeah im wondering this too.

96WHITETALON, how are those pipes working out for you? any problems? sounds like a GREAT deal for 260 bucks man!!! :talon:

I cut the bumper support with a sawzal. Cut like butta. Cut the bumper cover with a dremel. <-- smokes a lot, don't do it inside.

you have to trim the bumper support a little, like an inch or less. I took the whole bottom piece off to allow more air to get to the radiator. You can't see from the bumper but I used the existing shraud (spelling?) and cut it up to work with the bumper support to direct air straight into/through the radiator. Here's some pics of the bumper support.

Here's some shots of the pipes. The orange coupler is temporary. That spot is being welded so it's one pipe for the pass side, then all are being powder coated black next week so they look nice and don't rust.

The passenger side will also be beaded and powder coated and I'll fix all of those extra long hose clamps :p

The drivers side is 2.25" the pass is 2.5" to the throttle body.

Ask questions and I'll answer the best I can :thumb:

Edit: I already had the RRE lower IC pipe (the gray 90 bend) so I used that to go to my J pipe rather than make one.

is it just me or is that lower pipe really really close to the ground? how much does it cost and where can i buy a dremel? :talon:

the ic is 195 and if your serious about where to buy a dremel........ any hardware/walmart/target/ any friggin department store will have them

glad to see some pics lee :thumb:

so if you got one of these cores, rather than using alumi could you use the same (looks like the same hose as a radiator hose) uic hose that is hooked up on the stock intercooler? i mean if you use it for couplers. why cant you just use it for all the pipes?then this kit would be like 300 bucks!!! if thats the case im getting a frontmount in january too. :talon:

oh and i made a thread w/no luck so i figured id post my q here. but this would be the frontmount ill get tho...soooo cheap. :thumb:

there are 2 reason that i can think of, of not using radiator hose for the piping. one is the hose will flex under boost, also it doesnt bend ( it will but the hole will go from 2.5 inchs to less then one if you where to bend the pipe) get what im saying  :thumb:

im going the cheapest route possible.......... im gonna use my stock ic piping and cut it up for couplers :thumb:
thats a good idea. are you also going to go with the abs home d pipes? :talon:

This is a great discussion, but does anyone have any data yet on hp/ 1/4 time increases.
I would really like to know and it would be great to have this made into a tech article once the results are in.
