It's really good stuff... They can also get T-bolt clamps in by request too! I *heart* NAPA

I got home early from work today and got right into installing my ic(johhny racecar)
It went on fairly quick and the brackets included were really helpful. I did have to cut alot of the bumper reinforcement and actual cover(97 style). With it all on you can just barely see the welds on the ends of the vore for the endtanks. This thing is huge!. ala in all it looks great. Foglights are a maybe depending on what height u sit it at.

On to performance. Wow. I had a front mount before, shitty starion/conquest. This thing is amazing, feels very torquey in the low range now and a hell of a pull in the top end. Im running a big 16g with 15psi and my car wants to spin through first and second. I had a nice chirp of freakin third gear tonight. the weather is around mid 60s here tonight. I ran the car really hard to try to rule out any poping couplers. After some hard pulls i felt the pipes and there was a huge difference. one very hot. the other super cold. This is one of the best investments ive made yet besides a turbo upgrade. :D
 
I didn't even see this thread... I bought the 25x7.75X2.75 core about a week ago... it will be here on the 7th of october :cool: :cool: :cool:

sometimes you can find a deal on ebay for a bunch of mandrel bends. other than that try rre(roadraceengineering.com) or jegs.com. they both sell mandrel bent piping in any size. I went to jegs.com and went to the exhaust section then click on mandrel bends. Or on rre, go to the diy section.

I got my piping from dejontool.com but I have a different core for my intercooler.
 
The driver side intercooler pipe from the dejon race i/c pipe would work perfect for this core. The passengers side can be made out of a 180 degree U bend pretty easily or RRE makes one. The dejon pipe is $99 I think, the j pipe if you need it is an aditional $75, and the U bend is $15. A few coulpers for the drivers side are one about $15. Not too bad overall.
 
i used a u bend on the drivers side, cut down to look like a j. then used a 45 and a 60 on the passenger side. all the piping cost me about 45 bucks then 30 for couplers. the whole project came in at less then 300.
 
That's what I'm doin too and I'd recommend it before paying out the butt for pre-made pipes. I just pointed out the dejon pipe because a lot of people seem to be afraid of fabing their own pipes :(

Mine should be here next week, and I'm going to attempt to make my pipes. Only thing is, I have a 1GB, so I don't know how difficult that's going to be.

i had previously removed mine because i used to have a starion fmic and they ddint work. now that this one is in i can see the threaded bolt holes where the fog brackets go and the holes in the bumper are perfectly clear so it looks like the lights can stay. i dont have a set to test fit but im looking to replace them soon.
 
here is a link for my actually bid and winning of the pipes of ebay. at first i was really scared to fab my own pipes, but it turned out, it just takes some time to measure, and i just used a simple wheel saw and bought a metal cutter and put it in there, and started cutting stuff up. and as for the feeling after the IC install? WOW....

i do have a problem though

ever since i installed my front mount, i have been getting fuel cut problems. when i go WOT i hit feel cut like around 5500 every time, in pretty much any gear. :( and i have rc 550's too. hope i don't have to upgrade so soon.
 
A little OT, but you could try to lower your AFC settings some more, depending on what your timing looks like. Or since you have a 95 and likely an EPROM ECU, sell the AFC and get DSMLink-- that would cure your fuel cut problem forever. :cool:
 
Ok...

Can anyone give me some idea of what i will need for my 90 AWD..... (I just bought the 25x7.75X2.75 for 195.00 shipped)

I will call napa and get the t-clamps and the 4ply hose.

What kind of mandrel bends do i need and where is the cheapest place to get em?

Can i have a muffler shop bend me some pipes? (crush bent ok?)

ideas?

Anyone with stock injectors and no chip can have this happen with higher than stock boost and a good front mount. I'd either invest in some fuel managment and larger injectors or a DSMchips eprom chip w/ no fuel cut written in.

I had that same problem even on my starion fmic. but only on cold mornings. after some driving it was fine
 
Ive noticed that all of you guys are running 2.5 inch pipe.
I ran mine with all 2.25 because i have a dave brode upper ic pipe that is 2.25 so i wanted to make it all the same. It basically goes from the turbo j-pipe to 2" then up to 2.25 right away, then into the ic with a 2.25 to 2.5 reducer coupling then back to another reducer and 2.25 all the way to the intake manifold.

2.25 pipe is ok right? I didnt have the chance to replace my original db upper ic pipe so i figured this would be ok?
 
ok this is gonna sound like a real noob question, but i really wanna get this intercooler for my 1991 tsi awd and i dont wanna miss out on the oppertunity/price so my questions are

1. ill be running this on stock turbo, should i bother getting it (planning on running 16g later on)
2. if i should get it, what size core should i get
3. what ic is better jr or johnny racecar? and where to get it
