The ic shown on the front of that 1g is not a johnny racecar ic that we have been talking about. It looks more like the JR ic sold on ebay. You can see by the fact that that ic looks to be bar and plate and its defanetly not 30 inches long.

We need to get this straight. The forum is about JOHNNY RACECAR INTERCOOLERS, Not the ebay seller known as "jr" with the turbo 350 motor in a 300zx.

like others have said. Unless YOU have evidence to support that then keep your comments out of this forum. This forum was created so people could get real evidence and info about a specific intercooler, not to start spouting off useless hearsay. Yes the JR core is proven on a 900hp car or w/e but that doesnt mean its always gonna work for everycar.

Sorry ECLIPSE4x4.

Does any one have any flow ratings on the johnny racecar cooler?

No it's not a JR (or johnny racecar) intercooler. It looked pretty similiar to JR and since the topic is basically about how well off-brand ICs work, I thought I'd chime in. It's 26x6x2.5. I can't remember the ebay company I bought it from, street imports I believe.

I wish I'd gotten bigger, but hopefully it'll be sufficient for stock turbo. I should have 1/4 numbers in a couple weeks.

Mine came in today. Here's a few pics. It's nice that the actual core will fill the entire 2gb bumper. The welds are great looking also. Packaging was great, none of those damn peanuts. It came in a black foam "casket." Those two lines are only on one side but do rub off. We'll see what it can do when I get it installed :)

It "looks" like I can keep em based on lining things up and taking some measurements. I'm gonna try my hardest to keep them but we'll see...

BTW, all that "crap" on the ic in the pictures is just my dirty hand prints :)

Hey 98spydert, I just got mine last monday, im puttin it on this weekend. I had the same problem with the fingerprints. the endtanks have the brushed steel texture so they pick up dirt a little easier. I found a cure. I sprayed the endtanks with a clear coat (i used engine paint clear) . its more resilient to dirt that way. I guess you can agree that this ic is amazing for the price. Looks better then some of the more expensive pieces out there. You wont be able to see the endtanks anyways as it looks

lee....most sexeh, im glad it is everything he says it is, i am most def getting one of these soon

<--------------------dont forget who pointed you to it :p

im a little confused since there have been 84 different intercoolers talked about in this thread. did you actually get the johnny racecar's intercooler like this thread was supposed to be about or was it another one?

Yes, sorry about all of the confusion, this is the Johnny Race Car Intercooler. :thumb:

$195 for the moment and only availible through e-bay until he get's a web site or other "store front" going. Plus w/ free shipping so it's really hard to beat. Based on the recent demand, I doubt it will stay at that price but let's hope so!!!

Lol that's a toothy smile Honda owners will learn to hate :p

Looks sweet, I can't believe you're only using one bracket to hold it up! Is it pretty solid like that??

Edit: NM I see two now :p

What bends did you purchase for the passenger side pipe? two 90s or is a 45 one of them?

basically 2 90 degree bends. i used one original 90 and the other piece was half of a 180 degree bend.

OK OK im gettin real interested in this now with that sub 500 quote. BUT three things I need more info about . . .

1) where/what to buy pipes; diameter, lengths, what bends
2) where/what to buy silicone couplers
3) CAN I KEEP MY FOGLIGHTS????!?!?!? 2gb!!!

ok, i basically bought everything off ebay.

the 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipes were $125 before shipping, which included 2 (2 footers) 2 (90 degrees) and 2 (45 degrees).

couplers from HTS Hight Temp. Silicone were $35 for 5 (3 inch in width) couplers and 10 clamps

and the turbo was of cousre, johnny race cars biggest fmic that he has for sale right now, which was only $195 SHIPPED (seriously can not beat that).

i did everything myself, i just cut all the pipes myself, the only thing i needed a shop to do was to flare out the edges of all my pipes (so my couplers don't fall off).

ok, now for the review. i have never really pushed it hard, only did like 2 hard pulled tonight (really foggy and cold misty night PERFECT FOR US BOOSTED GUYS). the only data wise way for me to know of my improvements is airflow via my SAFC by reading my karman airflow readings. well here goes.

with my stock side mount i got a max of 1550 hz reading (at 7000rpm)
with my old supra SMIC, i use to get a max of 1750ish hz (at 7000rpm)
now with this setup, i only got on my throttle to a max of 55.3% throttle position, and max rpm of 5100rpm and my karman reading was an amazing 1825 hz!! i can't wait til i try this out at full 100% throttle and at 7000rpm. but then again, u have to factor in the fact that its very cold (like 60 degrees out) right now too. and after i drove the car for about 7 minutes or so, and doing to runs just like what i described, i felt my fmic and i felt the exhaust side, and it felt kinda warm. then i felt my intake side, and there was water on it like how cups of ice water have water on the outside. i was absolutely amazed. but then again, i wanna say this again, is that it is really could out also, so don't go thinking that this is the absolute best fmic ever. and i reached further in on my intake side of the piping, my pipe was like really cold, almost icy cold. gosh daym i love it. for under 400 bucks? i say this is one of the best buys if you have an upgraded turbo.

if anyone has any questions, just message me on aim @ vinh766

vinh766,

What are the dimensions of that intercooler? How much of the bumper did you have to modify/cut?

I got my mandrel bent pipes from jegs. You can buy full j-pipe and ubends from them for like 15 bucks then cut them to fit. Also got silicone couplers from HTS high temp silicone on ebay.
Also if you need straight pieces( for behind radiator) then go to pep boys and get a 3 ft piece of exhaust pipe. its really cheap.

The entire FMIC is 30 inches long form outside of endtank to outside of endtank and 8 inches tall. the core is 2 3/4 and the endtanks are 3.

Can someone post a link for seller of HTS high temp silicon couplers on ebay?... thanks.

Just search for "silicone reducer" then go to their store after clicking an auction.

Another option for couplers is to go to a large auto supply store and buy a couple feel of bulk black 2.5" radiator hose. It's reenforced and fairly inexpensive. Dejon uses the same stuff for their pipes and kits.

NAPA and O'Reillys carry the 2.5" radiator hosing in our area :thumb: much cheaper and pretty sturdy stuff.
