1) Yes, a FMIC WILL do a 14b a lot of good, and will give you more of an atvantage when you upgrade to a 16G.
2) The core this thread refers to would be a good size for a 14B/16G 25x~8x~3
3) JR IC uses a bar and plate core and the JRC uses a tube/fin core. Bar and plate is supposed to be better but there aren't any numbers to compair besides price. The JR costs almost twice as much after shipping. I don't think the difference in flow/psi drop warrents the rediculous price difference, but if you've got nothing better to spend the money on go for it.

What will i need for mandrel bends to install this on a 1g?

I can use exhaust pipe for the straight parts of the piping correct?

Where can i get them?

I want to order the Front-Mount and get the piping on the way so i Can get this all done. at the same time...

I believe if you go further back in this post suppliers were given, jegs and summit for some mandrel bends. Mark

kinda want an EXACT 1G list so i can buy them all and not get in the middle of a project and go S*hit i need a 45 deg bend here...

Travis

I used the long brackets they sent with the IC to mount it to the bottom of the front end, then bought some little brackets at home depot to mount the top to the faux light bracket spot.

Super easy install, huge core for super cheap :) I should have it all the piping hooked up by tommorow

What are the dimensions on that core?

Turbocharged,
Were you able to keep your bumper, cut into it, or did you just trash it?

I just got my FMIC and I'm going to try to put it on next weekend, and want to know what I'm up against.

Any problems taking off the front end? Where did you run the pipes on the driver's side? Any pics from the engine bay?

WHy did you cut your bumper? Do you plan on finisihing it somehow? Did you just use a saw-zaw or dremel to do that?

Could you have mounted the core a little lower?

Let me know how that thing feels once you haev it mounted up.

Travis W.

alright guys come on, im waiting for some results from a lot of people since everyone and their mother just bought this core. LOL so if anyone has any more install pics or any kind of results or anything, please post them :thumb:

Sorry guys, I promised results sooner but I'm stuck on getting my pipes powder coated. I'll just put it on this week and see what it does then take em off again. Results this weekend FOR SURE!

If anyones needs an idea of what pipes will cost here's what I got...

(2) 2.25" 180* U bends from Jegs = $41 shipped

forgot the other bend so I ordered it from RRE
(1) 2.5" 180* U bend and (1) 2.5-2.25 reducer from RRE = $55 shipped

1 foot of 2.5" 4 ply radiator hose and 2 feet of 2.25" 4ply radiator hose from the local heavy auto parts store and had them cut all of it into 4" sections with their chop saw for couplers. (3)2.5" and (6)2.25" couplers came to ~$50

10 hose clamps from Home Depot ~$10

Add all of this to the $195 for the IC shipped, I came out at $351.
I'll kick down the $50 to have all the pipes powdercoated here locally so they don't rust over time and I've got a nice IC kit for $400.

I'm running 2.25" piping from the J pipe to FMIC and 2.5" from the IC to my Dejon UICP. And I plan on going back later, before the powder coating, and have the pipes welded together so there's less couplers used.

Here are some pics of the FMIC installed on my 2g, and yes the pips are abs plastic from home depot :p . The total spent on the fromt mount install $260.00 :thumb:

Do you have the reciept on what exact couplers/peices you bought at home depot?

Does the ABS hold together ok? (no coupler popping?)

What kind of turbo setup are you running?

How does that FMIC feel?

yes i do have the reciept on the parts I bought, pm me and Ill give you the parts number. The abs hold together fine, but at first it did pop off, i guess i didnt have the clamps tight enough. Im running a big16g but planing on running 50 trim in a few months. The intercooler is the best money i ever spent, my car pulls alot harder now that i have this intercooler on. Also on the silicone couplers you best bet is to buy the 24" roll that this guy sells on ebay its $35.00 with shipping.

I mounted the I/c today. Tomorrow I'm taking it out to the shop to install the pipes.
Here's some pics.
Ignore the shitty cut job on the bumper cover, I didn't bother to clean it up yet. I just wanted to drivable tomorrow morning :)
AND notice the fog lights are still there ;)

I really appreciate the posters on this thread who took the time to give us pictures and info on this FMIC and its piping. Thanks! Keep the info and picts coming! :thumb:

Just a little food for thought. If a bar and plate flows better, wouldn't it be safe to assume it doesn't cool as well? The cooling ability of a heatsink is directly related to surface area, which a tube and fin has more of. And on top of that, the longer the air is in contact with the cooling area, the better a job the IC is going to do.

Just a bit of a 4am tangent :)

In case anyones wondering, I got rid of the stupid power steering cooler and I'm using one of these in the drivers side bumper opening instead. They're about $15.
