No, that is your SRS box (for your airbags).

To figure out if you have DSMlink, you'll have to remove your ECU (requires taking off both the footwell side panels around the dash and unbolting 3 bolts holding it in and unplugging the harness) and take off the cover (4 Philips head screws) and looking at the EPROM chip.

thanks for fixing that pic and +1 to what brian said, its an easy check to see if your ECU is an eprom unit or not...
once you pull out your cars ecu use this to determine whether or not its an eprom epromid [ECMTuning - wiki]

if you find out you do have an eprom ecu you can open it up and see if its been socketed for dsmlink using this socketid [ECMTuning - wiki]




to add to what brian said since you seem a bit lost....
removing the ecu basically involves removing the two side kick panels (each side of the center console) and then removing a few (3 i think) 10mm bolts holding the ECU in place. The ECU is physically located "behind" the radio, it sits vertical back there and the wiring harness is connected to it on the drivers side.

my fault the owner before me didnt know to much and thought that, that was the dsm link,
i didnt really know either so i went with it ..
but he g\has reciepts for everything and there is one for a v2 dsm link. . . ill do what you guys said, but how do i go about connecting a lap top to it, do i hook it up to the like scanner thing?

well if the owner didn't know much and pointed to the SRS box saying it was the ECU then i would be 100% certain i crawled under the dash and checked the ecu using the links i sent above ^^^ heres the cable though...

He didnt know what a "dsmlink" was? but he owned it? A DSM link is not a thing.. Its a chip in your ECU, a Cable, and a program on a laptop..

If he has a DSMlink receipt, you'll most likely be looking for this adapter (OBDII to serial) and a serial cable than the cable Corey posted above as that one is for v3 (ECMlink).

MY BAD! brians right, your looking for that adapter NOT that cable i posted if you've got dsmlink v2! and you cannot buy those if i remember correctly so hopefully its somewhere in your car.

It could likely be plugged into your OBDII port, which is up under the dash by your right knee if you're sitting in the driver's seat.

did what ya all said to,
i got the ecu out, and to my suprise it had the v2, with my luck i didnt think it'd be there,
but i cant find the adapter. . . didnt look real hard didnt see it any where under steering wheel. just the OBDII port i believe

Well without the adapter dsmlink is useless. Try contacting the previous owner about it. Since people normaly add$$ to the price if it has link already in it. Also take down the info that's on the chip. counterfeitcopies [ECMTuning - wiki]
If it's a legit copy maybe the guys a ecmlink can help you with getting another one.

Because, I have that entire harness/obdII cord/adapter ETC. Stupid me sold someone a 2g EPROM ECU on here with DSMLINK installed... I forgot to remove the chip... So now, All I have left is the damn cable and I have no use for it now obviously.

They will not sell the v2 adapters (like I posted above) separately. The only way to get one is to purchase a used v2 package. Without this adapter, the v2 chip is useless. They might burn you another v2 chip, but my guess is they have put that stuff on a shelf to focus on producing their v3 packages.

But for v2 you need the adapter/cable and a chip to upgrade to v3. Without either of these, especially the adapter, they will not upgrade you.

Just and FYI. You may want to move that large power wire away from the SRS module/wiring. Large current draws tend to induce current in other wires. I would hate to hit a hard bass note and induce current into the SRS module, setting of your Air Bags. Again, just an FYI.

DSMLink is just a chip inside the ECU. That's all it is. It's the software that lets you reprogram what the ECU sees and how it responds to what it sees.

The ECU is reprogrammed by your laptop, which is connected to a cable, which connects to the ADAPTER in question, which is plugged INTO your OBDII PORT located under the driver's side dash, to the right of the steering wheel and to the left of the center console. All the tuning information and datalogging information goes through this adapter and the OBDII port. If you can find someone to sell you just the adapter and cable, you're set to go.

Of course, this assumes you've actually got the DSMLink Eprom chip inside the ECU already. You won't know until you open it up or until you try connecting to the ECU with the DSMLink program.
