Is this a 20G?

I was browsing eBay and came across this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1G-DSM-20G-TURBO_W0QQitemZ270066189354QQihZ017QQcategoryZ33742QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I didnt think that a 20G came in a TD05 housing, I thought they were all TD06. Looks more of an Evo 3 to me, but if anyone can chime and help me out, it would be appreciated.
By the way, if you can't post good advice, then don't post at all. I don't really want to hear "Stay away from ebay" or sh*t like that. Save your comments and post them in the newbie section.

i thought td05 housing were used on 14bs and 16gs and like you said tdo6 was 20g..

20G's use the TD06 compressor housing. The only exceptions were the 'bastard' or 'sleeper' 20G's that some vendors made by putting a 20G compressor wheel into a TD05 housing.

The guy that's selling it says he's pulling it from a wrecked Talon. Either he doesn't know and was fed a line from an unscrupulous vendor who sold him a regular 16G or it really is a bastard 20g. Contact the seller and ask him where he picked that turbo up from.

Yea, i emailed him but he hasn't replied yet. Its at $500 buy it now, and i can pick up a new evo3 for $519 shipped

Dont buy that thinkin its a 20g, definetly a evo16g....
Oh trust me, I highly doubt thats a 20G,thats why I came here in the first place. I'll bet money its a 16G, and he's just trying to pawn it off as a 20G so it sells and he can make some cash.

Once i recieve his email, I'll let you guys know what exactly it is, or what he "thinks" it is.
Anyway to tell if its a E316G by serial numbers??

um, there is definetly a td05 version of the 20g. Only way to know for sure what that is would be ot cross the nimbers on it.

Yes get the numbers off the comp housing, this will be a start. Im leaning towards evoIII or knock off as well. The turbine housing while the TD05 is available for a 20g, its the evoIII housing (which it is possible they swapped on there), could be a bastard 20g like was said.

He states in the auction that the # is 49178-01470, and if I remember correctly, that is an evoIII. But it could have easily had a 20g wheel put in it and had the compressor housing machined to fit.

Yup, those are EVO III numbers as Keith (my good friend) correctly mentioned. I'd ask if he put a TD06 wheel in it to be sure. It'll make for some nice power but these are prone to surge above 25 psi due to the tight spacing of the compressor wheel to the housing.

If you guys read the ebay description he clearly states someone put a 20g wheel into it. "THE PERSON HAD A 20G COMPRESSOR WHEEL INSTALLED BEFORE IT WAS EVEN BOLTED ON. THE INDUCER IS 2.067 AND EXDUCER IS 2.680".

Now if he really did do this is the question.

I just emailed him and the guy does not know what he has. Its a 16g I'm pretty sure.

Oh really Jay? Seems funny he just emailed me and this is what he had to say:
You are right on all counts,it was a 49178-o1470 that was bought new and 20g wheel installed.
Thanks all for helping me. It is a Evo with a 20G wheel stuffed in there. Would make a nice turbo for me, but I'm not ready for 20G right now. I've got a ways to go before I even think about slapping on a bigger turbo.

Andy:
Where did you find info on what turbo is what, using serial numbers? I would like to bookmark this for future reference, in case this scenario comes up again.

If your not even close to upgrade the turbo whats the point of this thread.

I just typed the numbers into google and it brings it up.

The point of the thread is knowledge. I stated earlier that if you have nothing nice to post, then don't post at all. All I said was that I was browsing ebay and came across this, and thought it was a little strange, since I have not seen a 20G turbo with the smaller TD05 compressor housing.

ANd tfor the record there is a Td05 20g I have bought one brand new with the Td05 hot side. And further more, a 20g compressor housing is way larger than that so how did the 20g wheel fit in there?

They machine the inside of the compressor housing to match the 20G wheel. It looks like a 16G, but flows more. It will not however flow like a true 20G, but will outflow any 16G. Made for the "Sleeper Look". It is not a high boost, pump gas friendly turbo either, due to the clearance between the compressor wheel and housing. I found this out after doing some research on the "Hybrid 20G", as the clearance on a true 20G is further away from the housing.
