It has a bunch of crudy stuff around the capacitors, data logger wont log, one minute the car will start next minute it will just turn over, done a compression test and 155-150-150-150 from pass side to drivers side. if it's the ECU then i wanna get one but if i dont have to get one then I'm not, I will get pics later today.

as far as smell I put my nose down toward the capacitors and it smells like rotten fish, here are a couple pics, and also their is 2 picstures here of something that fell out from under my dash when I was doing the wiring harness change, reason I went toward teh ECU is b/c on my N/T my datalogger/cables worked perfect I cant get the logger to read anything, keeps saying serial comm error, also just so I know is this ECU a Eprom?

It does appear that the caps have leaked. You might be able to get it repaired, there are a couple people on this forum that do that sort of thing.

It's non-eprom.

Smell the board; if it smells like fish, it's leaked and damaged.

Steve, don't you fix 1G ECU's? I always thought you were known to do that. :D

For the record, how can you tell it is a turbo ECU? Differences? :D
Several things stick out that you can see in these pictures.
The turbo ECUs have the knock board shown in the lower left of the first image.
The turbo ECUs have larger snubber capacitors than the NT ones. Those are the four green blocks in the upper right.
Turbo ECUs have two additional driver ICs next to the snubber capacitors for the extra solenoids, boost gauge, and MAF reset.
If I could have seen the edge connector the number printed on it would tell be what ECU it came from.

ROFL Yes, I've been known to do that from time to time.

ok to clear up a few thing's I no longer have a N/T motor in my car I bought a 6-bolt for 500 with bad tranny and motor has had the he!! ran out of it apparently and I'm trying to fix everything as I go. yes the ECU smells like dead fish. what would you charge to put new capacitors in the ECU dont look like the board is damaged to bad, I cant afford an arm and leg b/c I gotta get head gasket set, valve stem seals, waterpump and oil pump and a few other misc things.
