is it ok to driving a car with a bad turbo?

im going to look at a 96 gst tomorrow. the lady said the turbo blades are bent up. im not sure how that would happen, eather is she. she said the car runs fine but doesnt have as much power.
the drive is 3 hours

maybe bad shaft play?

not really ideal i wouldnt drive it home (3hours) if you decide to buy it if the blades are bent or broken theres a chance of debris in the motor and could be very unhealthy for the motor (explain this to her) try to get the car for cheap usually older ladies who have these cars dont wanna pay the big money shops charge to fix them so they will just sell them cheap good luck

she 23 and knows enough about cars . heres the rundown on the motor.
she bought the car from her friend with a blown motor. found a 7 bolt fully rebuilt on ebay and it just so happen to be her local shop that was selling it. she bought it and had them put it in. she was driving it about 2 days a week and at 9000 miles on the motor she felt a sudden power loss. her uncle that owns a dealer ship had a mechanic look at it and found out the turbo blades were bent. the motor now has 12k miles. she said it runs fine just doesnt have alot of power.

I would definetly have it towed. you already half to replace the turbo. Why risk blowing the motor? If the blades are bent its only going to get worse the more its drove.

ok thanks and off topic. will a big 16g turbo with tubular manifold with a j pipe bolt up to my set up. its a stock smic.

+1 on this if one of them blades brake off might ass well kiss that motor goodbye. just get it towed or find a t25 online cheap swap it out and drive it home from there. i dont see why she wouldnt do that if she knows about the cars ? investigate this make, sure you do a compression test. she might have had this happen to her already (sucked a piece of the blade up) if its power loss that can be more than the turbo

yes. you dont even need the manifold. there are 14b 16g install kits for 2g that are pretty cheap and give you everything you need

and its fine to drive with stock injectors,ecu and fuel pump with no safc with a big 16g

yeah just keep the boost 14 psi or lower some people say you can go 16 but dont....

On stock 12 psi yeah...But I would stay away from spooling the turbo if it's bad..

make sure the motor isnt the culprit here and good luck ! i never asked if it was a 16g already if if it is you will not need the install kit but inspect the turbo and motor you dont want to buy a turbo just to find out she blew the motor up/bent a valve etc...

It was the stock t25. theres no boost control so ill be on on stock psi. After I instal the turbo im going to bring it to a mechanic there and have them go over everythimg, I would rather spend the 150 to have a professional check it out then me.

The16g comes with the instal kit. Im buyimg it from someone who had it on their 2g so everythimg should be golden.
