intermediate shaft bolts

Hey guys, I'm trying to change the driver side cv axle on my 95 gsx 5spd. I would like to remove the cv without removing the intermediate shaft, if that is possible. However I don't think that is the proper way to do this so I will remove the whole assembly. The problem that I'm having is removing the intermediate shaft bolts that connect it to the engine block. I can't get a good swing with my 1" breaker bar or my ratchet b/c the downpipe is in the way. Am I missing something or does the downpipe have to come out also to perform this repair? It shouldn't right?

It shouldnt have to but if it wakes it easier then drop it down. Its only 2 more nuts

Dang thanks widow. I was hoping that, that wouldn't be the case b/c I live in Buffalo (the land of the snow) an those nuts are really rusty and are most likely going to break and if that happens I'm going to need a new exhaust and I not ready to do that yet. but Thanks

Just replace the bolts if they brake not your exhaust. but yeah i dropped the dp to get a better angle for the axle bolts.

OK.... noway around it I guess. If I have to drop the downpipe I will.
