im convinced, spraying the rest of my dash, headliner, and all the seats tomorrow, ill post up some pics of the results, (hopefully i can get a lot of the duplicolor)

If youre spraying the dash... i would recommend takign it out. This way you can get even coverage from all angles, and you dont have to worry about masking off your whole interior.

While rubbing alcohol will work well for cleaning, i have found that some blue Dawn dishsoap (the kind without ammonia) in a bucket of warm water works best. Scrub that hell outta those seats with the water/soap solution and an S.O.S. pad, and you shouldnt have any problems.

Dont forget pics!

If your like me and have a convertible, that krylon fusion melts when in the sun. Duplicolor vinyl/fabric spray works MUCH better, but it scratches very easily on plastic for me :notgood: I did my tan leather seats black w/ it and it came out good, but it has cracked and looks half tan now, and little specs have come off. I've tried recleaning and recoating, to no avail. It never did rub off onto my clothes though!

Ive heard of other people having krylon melt when it gets hot too. Dupli-Color does make plastic trim paint. I've never had any of it chip on me before (daily driven car too)

i had great results with the Krylon fusion on my 2g(check gallery).People that don't get good results is because they don't have a CLEAN surface and don't prep properly.Prepping is one of the most important steps of painting. Also having patience.i don't know about the other products that were being discussed, but alot of people seem to have good results with it.

the reason some guys are not getting good results painting their interior parts is because they are not prepping it properly as stated before. when u get the parts out of the car, this is including the vinyl door panels and all plastic. u need to get some powdered washing detergent and mix it up in a bucket of warm water. just like a cup of detergent into a gallon of water or so. then use a scotch brite pad or flexible scuff pad and scratch/sand the entire piece up real good. the detergent will take most of the color out of the piece to be painted ending up with a white color to the whole piece. it will also take out all grease, dirt, and grime. after the piece dries u will be able to tell by rubbing it that it is really rough and dry feeling. it is now ready to paint. u might use some prepping solution like a prep cloth or something, but its really not necessary with some duplicolor. paint several thin coats and dont go to thick with any of them. also when buying your paint, if ur wanting to match the factory interior paint flat black or whatever color ur goin with it needs to be flat. hope this helps u guys trying to do this. i did the vinyl part of my door panels flat black a couple months ago and if done right it looks great. cant tell the difference between mine and factory. :thumb:

I used the Plastic fusion myself,(check gallery) looks good but after a while it scuffed, then I wrecked it LOL, I was wondering if I put engne enamel over the paint on my new awd tsi would it protect it better?

i used all plastic fusioin on all my interior. then just used clear coat over everything. have never had and problems with scratching or tackiness. pics are in my gallery, although i have done some since those pictures were taken. ill be having more pics of my car once i get my hatch repainted.

For best adhesion of paint, wash the part best with soap and water first. get a good plastics cleaner from a paint store and clean it with that. Then rub the panel with a white scotchbrite pad, and clean again with the plastics cleaner. Then as Lox said, bulldog is like $5 a can at walmart and will do probably your whole interior. Follow the instructions on the can for application.

I just looked at the Krylon Fusion color selection and all they have Is Gloss and Satin Black no flat Black, so do i just use Satin  and since Krylon is for plastic do i realy need prep :dsm:

Yea you really should prep it regardless. I tried not prepping it and I got fisheyes everywhere. I looked like S**T is all i can say

I am still in the process of doing some of my interior such as heater knobs, Vent, and a few other things.

I also done all my interior in the hatch and back seats with Dupli color vinyl and fabric spray and it's holdin up some what decent. I am doing the rest of the painting with Krylon fusion plastic paint. I was told to just use a primer at wal-mart and then get the .94 cents paint and it will have same effect, I dont know never tried it yet.

i used krylon fusion on my interior too, first time around it was horrible, i had no idea what i was doin, i just wiped the surface and started spraying, second time i learned to prep ALL surfaces and give appropriate drying time in between coats and i even clear coated it just to make sure nothing would happen...if ya want some pics they're in my profile

later,
drew

P.S.- Anyone in the north jersey area looking to chill(drink some beers :rocks: ) and work on the DSM's let me know...mine needs some tuning!!!!!

Here is what proper prep work and good paint can look like. I painted this interior and the owner has won numerous awards for it within the last year.

is that metalicast two step paint?

ps. on a focus??

The links were from imagestation so that may be the issue..but yeah its on a focus, and its the stock SVT blue color that I used to paint those pieces....

How do i get my door panels off? I took 4 screws out of the tan part and 2 in the black part( one behind the handle and one down in the trash collecter ROFL )

that should do it right there just pull off the door.....oh first pull off the peice behind the handle, then the door will come off

I just bit my lip and ripped it off. are there any parts of the panel that come apart, bexause down by the speaker cover theres a little cubby hole that looks a little tricky? :dsm: :dsm: :dsm: :dsm: :dsm: :dsm: :dsm: :dsm: :dsm: :dsm:

for leather seats you can use vinyl or leather dye, found at rag shop

for interior panels, i like to primer, then 4-5 LIGHT coats, first coat doesn;t have to cover everything just a few bursts from the can, next one get the spots u missed and even it out, 3rd is a complete cover in a light coat, 4-5 if needed to make it more, then clear coat or wax

paint used doesn't really matter, it is all paint in the end, the application of it gives it 80% of the look.

paint melting in the sun, cant help that just a bit too hot for it. use vinyl dye on plastics if u got a spyder

Start yanking, not too hard though. When pulling the panel off, pull from one area at a time and work around the outside of the panel.

the storage compartment thing on the bottom of the door, next to the speaker right?.....yeah thats a little tricky...i just found the best angle i could to get in there and i did many light coats on it

Please dont shop at walmart unless you really want all U.S jobs to go to China. Walmart has destroyed entire towns. If you want more info do a search. They're really single haldedly f-ing up america. But it's all profit just the same to them.

For the paint, cleaning is very important. But what most people miss is the right conditions for the kind of paint they're using. Enamel, laquer, etc all require different drying times, recoat times, temperature and humidity. If you spray in an area that's just a little too humid, your paint will not dry it will just turn sticky. If you recoat an enamel in 2 hours it will crack and come off the surface. Make sure to do EXACTLY what it says on the back of the can.

Dupli-Color is defintly the way to go, although after a while the paint does start chipping, I had to respray my interior a couple times.
