Interior painting [Merged 7-9] paint trim plastic plastics

The original poster wanted to know about painting the interior plastics. Vynils are a little different. Many paints that will hold to plastics will not be able to handle the flex of the vynil parts. I would like to know if the original poster is going to do the door as well.

Also, how are the products that those who have done this to your vynil holding up?

I did the same thing on my first white GSX about 2 years ago, except mine was the tan/black. Here's a pic:

Whta products/procedures did you use to do that?
Also I really like your tweeter mounts. Mine are in the same spots...only velcro'ed on. OMG

What mounting device did you use? is it custom?

The tweeter housings are the stock sail panels with a hole cut out for the speaker. Then there is PVC pipe the same diameter as the tweeter that is JBwelded to the sail panel at the angle I wanted. The rest is filled in with bondo and smoothed out to fit.

My interior panels were cleaned with brake parts cleaner and sprayed with vinyl/carpet dye. I believe Dupli-color made it.

Fair enough!
Hows about I mail you a broken cell phone, a sharpie pen and some garlic pills in exchange for a tech article? :D

I'd be willing to put in the time to make it just cause the sun melts the velcro adhesive and my gf keeps squashing the fallen tweeter in the door. I'm ready for a better solution.

I want to know how to paint the interior of my 91 talon. Want it to look good what paint?

When painting the interior I used a plastic paint, I don't remember the brand I can find it and get back with you if you want. Also you may want to use clear cloat as a topper for shine. Just make sure you can use on the paint you buy on plastic so it bonds. 2-3 cloats of each for a longer lasting finish. Also watch the temp/humidity if painting outside because it can cloud your clear coat. Remember to clean the surface of what your painting with alcohol first to strip any ArmorAll and such.

Good Luck :thumb:

You want to start out by cleaning whatever you are going to paint. Use prep sol solvent or another wax and grease remover.

Then sand or scuff the pieces with a 400 grit scotchbrite or sandpaper. If you are painting the black dash panels you will want to be careful not to sand through the black layer of the panels.

Clean the pieces again. Then use some adhesion promoter on the panels. It helps to bond the plastic to the paint and prevent cracking and chipping. Then spray color and clearcoat.

Fusion paint is designed for use on plastic but only comes in a few colors. It is possible to have auto paint put into a spray can if you don't have the tools to go that route. Even regular spray paint should yield good results if done correctly.

im thinkin about painting my interior like my dashboard and the heat and a/c knobs and i was wndering what the best type of spray paint to get?

They make special plastic/vinyl paint that is available at most local parts stores.

Plastic or vinyl spray works good on plastic surfaces. Good prep is really the key when painting anything, especially plastic . You will want to sand the pieces with 400 grit sandpaper or a red schotchbrite. Then clean it very well with a wax and grease remover.

Their is a spray product you can buy which I suggest using, it's called adhesion promoter. It helps the paint bite into the plastic to prevent chipping. If you use the promoter you could get away with using a regular type spray paint. Just follow the instructions on the cans and your dash should turn out fine.

well i bought the paint i needed and prepped and painted my camera is my phone camera so it has shit resolution but i want your opinion.
