intercooler piping thickness

i plan on using mild steel for my intercooler piping just because i dont have a tig welder or a spool gun for my welder. what thickness piping would be suitable for the piping. Also do they make steel bov flanges(if not ill have to braze an aluminum one on). i plan on having it powder coated when its all done so rust wont be an issue. any input would be greatly appreciated.

As thin as possible! Mine is aluminum and its something like 1.2mm if your using mild steel then go thinner. Then again your mig welding it so be careful, best to weld it up in tack sections! I've done this in an exhaust before as its the only way to not get so much heat in the pipe and making holes! Don't forget to swage the edges so the couplers don't pop off! Hope this helps you a little.

If you can get your hands on some oxy-acyt gas then use that as its better then a mig welder for this thin stuff

Why not just get a universal aluminum pipe kit, cut it to fit and beat the edges? It will look nicer, be lighter, and will disperse any absorbed heat better.

16 and 18 gauge are the most common thicknesses for steel tubing. Either one will be just fine. And most BOV flanges are available in steel. Which flange are you looking for?

You have to watch out for rust with mild steel IC pipes too. Just to throw that out there.

thanks for the great info, i think ill be going with 16gauge steel. and gst racer i was looking at an hks or 1g flange.
