Intercooler choosing help

Hi new to the forums. I own a 90 talon tsi awd. I am planning to upgrade the 14b to a 16g real soon and was wondering what would be the ideal size piping for the intercooler.

Ive seen many people go with 2.5 and 2.75 and i was thinking to go 3 inches all the way (thats what she said). Would this be enough for a good flow of air with the big 16g?
