Intake Manifold

Hello. I have a 2nd Gen Evo II motor in my 96 eclipse and wanting to upgrade the throttle body and intake manifold. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or reviews on which ones are the best or the best places to order the parts from. Thanks!

I just bought the car haven't been around DSM before always was into VW stuff and decided to switch over. This is what he told me I will upload some pics here shortly of the motor

I thought the evo 2 had the rvr intake manifold? That look just like a plain jane 7 bolt out of the gst/gsx.

The valve cover looks to be evo 2 though.

Well it is a turbo motor.

A bolt on TB and intake manifold upgrade is the evo 3.It looks almost identical to the stock 7 bolt manifold.But has the 60 mm tb.

Op I would change your car to say spyder GST.Not spyder with turbo.

I am not sure exactly the guy I bought it from said when he bought it the guy told him he put an jdm Evo II motor in it. He could of lied to me like I said I am new to the DSM scene. I appreciate all the help though guys! Is there anything on the motor I can look at to find out for sure what it is?

You could measure the Intake manifold opening behind the TB.

Or get the numbers off of the turbo..It should be a big 16g is it's stock jdm evo2.

Well if it is a spyder gs with a 4g63t swap than it is what he is saying it is, a spyder gs with a turbo engine.

When i think of a spyder gs with turbo i think of a 4g64 with a turbo or a 4g63. There are no 420a's in spyders.

this is why spyders are so special it doesn't matter if it was non turbo or turbo it can have a 4g6 engine and awd swap

try that with a normal 2g

Try looking at the Vin numbers to see what you really have you can use the following methods:

1) take the vin number off the door jams, dash board,transmissions, engine etc and just place it into carfax to see what the car comes up as such:

If you want the the factory look. You could port yours even going as far as cutting it open to feather and smooth the intake runners. If you do a search you will be able to find many options.

But before you can get a manifold... you need to know what motor you have. From looking at the picture you do have... it looks like a regular old 4g63 to me. Maybe the guy was trying to fancy it up by calling it something else? But it doesn't look like anything remarkable to me. Looks like what the hubby has sitting in his gst.

Yes I am looking for an aftermarket intake manifold. I am trying to find a good intake everything I am finding online looks cheap and I want something that is going to be worth the money spent on it.

Spend your money elsewhere, or on an Evo 3 Intake manifold. It will look the same but flow more for a little higher top end.

An aftermarket intake manifold for your car would probably hurt performance if anything. It looks like you're on a 14b/16g or something and if you got a SMIM you would just lose power in the end.

If you really want to upgrade it like I said look into an Evo 3 manifold.

Also it wouldn't hurt to fill out your mod profile. I don't know if you're tuning with anything but for the price you would spend on a SMIM which would be useless to you, you could get ECMLink. Proven and worth every penny if you ask me.

Nope sorry your wrong as well as the other guy to a degree. Sure the op wants to know what manifold to get but thats secondary at the moment because as you clearly stated he wants to know if its a JDM motor or not. Therefore the other guys comment is irrelevant at the moment.

I answered this and more as I told him to check his door jams, dashboard, transmission, and engine vin in order to see if they match or come up as something else (using the 3 links i provided above). Ultimately this can help him narrow down what has been done to his engine.

For example (since you appear to be not following along):
He list his car as a spyder gs w/turbo(stating he has a jdm motor). However there seems to be some confusion if its a jdm , 4g64 w/4g63 or just a 4g63. Now if he uses the magical things i told him about earlier such as door jambs, dash, transmission and engine vin. Then he can decipher to see what he really got. If the vins turn out to be a spyder gst then I'm willing to bet he probably got hoodwinked. In any case he needs to check and verify that information before he can receive any information regarding what intake manifold to use.
