Well, heres my first thing. F-Allstate, and F that. Your 19 right? Did you tell them the vehicle is modded? If so you may be a little screwed. Have you asked them why they are JUST now jacking the rate on you?
Now, Are you a directly related to anyone in the military? If so USAA is the way to go, I pay $74.75 on the talon plus an '05 Corrolla.

Geico also sucks from my experience. But shop around. Surely you can find a better rate. $731 is unheardof. Youd see me rollin' with no insurance myself. Dont sell it, but look around, there has to be a solution. And PS to any lawhounds out there? Is that even legal this late in the game with that kind of premium?

And what was it before hand?

Exhibition of Speed ticket last year. She said I spun my tires. That's funny.

Long story short, I wasn't able to fight it. I can get into details about that tomorrow....just too pissed to tonight.

It's now over a year later and State Farm called. My car is now $731 A MONTH to insure. Apparently, exhibition of speed is considered racing, which is as bad as a DUI.

The sad part is, no one even believes me. They look at my car, my age, my appearance and assume I'm some crazy little street racer kid...when in reality, I drive more like the typical vette owners.

I just don't know what to do. It's been over a year since the ticket... can I do ANYTHING?

I will never sell my car. It's been my dream since I was 13. But I can't pay that rate...I've never even heard of something that high. How will I get to class? Work?

Am I going to be forced to go to a cheap ass insurance company and get liability just because I went full throttle for a whopping two seconds?

Any advice?

go with the gecko. i have 3 speeding tickets and one driving on the wrong side of the road also exhibition of speed. well all that and my 97 eclipse is only 165 a month full coverage, o im also 22 but i think i have a way worse record then yours.

Something just isn't right with that, I am on high risk insuring after being dropped due to a serious accident resulting in 500,000+ in hospital, (totally covered by insurance), so basically the state assigns me to and insurance company, and they HAVE to take me, but they can own me on insurance, and still I'm only paying 200 a month, and I'm 18.

Avoid big name companies like Geico, StateFarm etc that don't like young single drivers with "fast cars". It does not make sense to pay $731 a month for full coverage, that comes up to $17,544 in 2 years. OMG If you have to, get liability only coverage, your car is NOT worth the premium that State Farm want to charge you (just my opinion).

Just did an online quote with Geico... $411/month.

About to try some others....

Anyways, the plan tomorrow is to go to the court verrry early to see if I can talk to the judge. Probably not going to work, but worth a shot.

See, already an improvement :thumb: Told ya so.

And by the way, for all intents and purposes...
YOUR CAR IS NOT MODIFIED! 1/4 mile who? WHat the hell are you talking about LOL

You can get a realistic quote man, thats more than my loan payment is on my new rolla (I paid $14587 cuz Im smooth) :sneaky:

But hey, lookin round has already saved $200+, keep searchin.
Whats the whole situation anyway?

Ryan :talon:

im paying 1000 somethin, for 6 months of full coverage. And im 18...

But I can happly Say, I have No Speeding Tickets, and have only been pulled once. Because i was doing 4 over 12 over. But that place is where everyone speeds. Its a freakin highway and 45 mph. I was doing like 55. But he says I was doing 57. O well, he didnt give me a ticket, cause Iv never previously had one....Then right after, he pulled over another chick from my school, for a 13 over, and she got a ticket HA

heh, thanks guys.

State Farm when I had a perfect record was still $280, but it was pretty much the best coverage you could get.

I guess I'm going to have to get liability :( Every company I've just tried is between $400 and $600...while liability is around $150.

I guess I could live with it... I've never had to file a claim in the past.

The situation...same cop pulled me over in a span of two days at the same place. Both times she said I chriped my tires LOL. I tried explaining to her that it's impossible, but her reasoning was that if she can do it in her cruiser, I could do it in my car because it has a manual transmission. Oh, and she also said her cruiser is AWD...and pretty much implied that I have no idea what I'm talking about. hmm...superiority complex? ;)

The story of trying to fight it would take quite a long time to type out...I'll save that for tomorrow.

ooh...and I got a seatbelt ticket leaving my street the other month. I haven't been able to pay it (~$90) because I've been trying to save up for a new clutch so I can actually drive to school and work, rather than bumming rides and sometimes missing class. I guess I waited too long, and today they sent in the mail a fine of $350 and said my license is gone until it's paid.

And after driving my car for the first time in five weeks today, a cop decided to follow me around. I swear, they love me :| I would have flipped out if he turrned on his lights.

i dont know, something doesnt sound right.

but #### insurance. drop it and tell them to #### themselves in their goat ass(unless youre still financing, which in that case you have to have full coverage until the loan is payed off). ####ing ghetto ass people drive around and nothing happens to them when they get in an accident, the insured person gets raped while the uninsured just has to find another 50$ hooptie ghetto mobile.

even being in discovery bay(cali people pay highest insurance, even more for being in the bay or los angeles), thats insane prices. even insuring a ####ing lambo doesnt cost that much a month for full coverage.

holy cow. no disrespect but its not like you are driving a lambo around or something. thats insane i would try the smaller insurance companies.

Don't get full coverage, I'd be killing whatever damaged my car in the first place so I wouldn't need to worry about the afterfact in jail.
It's like $1000 a year with state farm basic coverage. $3000 for full coverage. See if it helps.

I was pricing Insurance rates on an R1 last year because I was looking at buying one. For an 18 year old with good driving record it was 5K for 6months, I couldn't even imagine 10K in insurance a year. F*** insurance at that point, it's not like they're going to pull you over in the first place. :sneaky:

Try the small local insurance shops, I pay $60/month for liability and I have a few speeding tickets. The big names will rape you and laugh all the way to the bank. I'm still making payments on the car, I had full coverage for two months through Geiko ($220/month which is close to the dang car payment), but then I just dropped to liability through a small company.

And i thought mine was high when i started driving this car @ $320 a month
Now its down to only $200 a month... can't wait till im 25 when insurance goes down even more ! :thumb:

I'd def look for local places, I was only paying 200 a month for my gsx-r600 after the big names wanting 9,000 a year, and that was with a ticket for driving after consuming alcohol and being underage. Might be different though since I got a prayer for judgement for it and somehow only affected my motorcyle insurance. Anyway, you get the point. good luck

I'm 23 and I'm pretty sure my driving record is worse than yours. Actually, I am completely sure. I use esurance, and my rate is 590 every six months. I don't have full-coverage, only whats required by law. You know that location also has a great deal to do with how much it costs to insure you. If you are in a high risk area, your premium will be a helluva lot more expensive than in some po-dunk town.

Some of you guys are getting hosed. I pay $100 a month for a 2004 mini cooper S AND my 92 tsi. Make sure you are taking the right coverages (liability, comprehensive, collision) and have the right deductables ($100-$500). It will make a huge difference. Why pay $2500 a year or more to insure a car that's only worth $2000? Why have a $500 deductable if you get into any wreck that's over that your car will most likely be in serious trouble, and be totaled, anything under $500 and it's all out of your pocket? Just some things to think about. I went over every charge with my rep from state farm. I like the reimbursement for tows, like 3 every 6 months or something (never used them all). :D

edit: I'm not saying anyone's car is worth $2500, I'm just saying make sure you tailor your insurance to the value of your car. If your car is worth $500 just make if a tree falls on your car you will get your $500. Other than coverage if you hit someone else, what other coverage would you need? A deductable, for WHAT?

Honestly, its your fault for not fighting the ticket. Why didn't fight the ticket. And on top of that you chose to not pay your ticket and instead "save" for a clutch. I don't have sympathy for you. Get your priorities straight. If I was irresponsible I could have a 10 second car built already, but then I'd be close to $15,000 in debt, live in a sh*t hole, and barley have enough to money to feed my family and pay for gas.

Oh, and you can chirp your tires. I know cause I have done it but then again I have an ACT2600 holding it down.

My insurance is $750/yr for the GSX and $800/yr for the Corvette, full coverage and $250/$250 deductible. This is with the Autoclub (AAA of SoCal).

Shop around and Im sure you will find something a little bit more affordable. I disagree with the guy who said to stay away from the big names (State Farm, 21st Century, etc.). The big companies are easier to deal with in an event of an accident than a no-name company that will give you more headaches to deal with. All of them are evil, but I will go with the lesser evil that will steal the least money from me. ;)

Ahh...there's always that one person in a thread... :boring:

One day in August 2004, me and a buddy were on our way to test drive a GSX for him. He was driving a 90 Probe GT behind me. It was his first "sports car", and naturally, drove like an idiot 24/7. We came to an intersection... I was in the left lane, a red sedan in the right, and my buddy still behind me. I admit, I didn't do a full 2 second stop...the speedo dropped to 0, and I took off again. I needed to get in the right lane and the red car was pacing me, so I stepped on the gas about 3/4 throttle at the top of first gear then get into the right lane. Cop zooms out hiding at the intersection, passes my buddy, and gets behind me. She says I spun my tires and ran the stop sign. She gives me a stop sign ticket. Right afterwards, my buddy calls me freaking out saying he thought he was going to get pulled over because he chirped his tires. I was kinda upset, but I can accept the stop sign ticket because I did not come to a complete stop.

The day after, me and a friend are cruising and he asked to see how my car pulls from a stop. So, I stopped at the intersection...looked around...everything quiet. Not a single soul. SLipped out the clutch around 3500-4000RPM's. My clutch can't grab that well, and I'm running a Fidanza flywheel. It's prety damn impossible to spin my tires.. (I even took it to the track and DUMPED it at 6000 just to see if it would. Just bogged. In comparison, I was able to chirp them in my 1G Talon though because it had an ACT2600 and some crappy tires.) But anyways, I took it to the top of first gear, still 5mph under the speed limit. Cop pulls out again LOL. Apparently, I spun them again. Turbo whistle and BOV sound like tires screeching? I dunno. But she gave me the exhibition of speed ticket. Which I guess is considered racing. Yaay.

The officer says to me both tickets will be held on the same day. I go to court and plead not guilty, and they set my date. In the mail a week later, I received a letter rescheduling the date. Then in another week, I receive the same kind of letter rescheduling it again. I go to the most recent reschedule date, and here's what happened... The officer decided to reschedule them both to different dates. When I found this out, I checked both letters and there was nothing that made this clear besides a docket number at the very top which were both very similar looking. I know...my bad for not having a perfect eye. I had many other people read them when I received them, and they didn't catch this either.

Of course, there was really no way I could "prove" the stop sign case, so I lost. I started talking to people at the court to see what I can do about the other case that I ended up missing because I made a mistake in my understanding of the rescheduling. They said to appeal it, so I started that process. I did a couple steps, but ended up not understanding what to do next. Parents were too busy with their own lives to help, neighbors didn't understand, and I was already stressing with finals (which were much more important IMO). In the end, the appealment was dropped. I did not have the time or legal skills to do it, and definitely couldn't afford a lawyer.

Yes, I know you're going to jump in again and yell it's all my fault for not getting this taken care of properly. I understand this fully, which is why I made this thread asking for advice.

My car is undrivable to town now because of the clutch. I have school, and am starting work next week. I would consistently miss classes when I couldn't bum a ride to school. Fixing my car was/is a huge priority to me. Moreso than paying a $90 seatbelt ticket that I got 15 seconds after leaving my driveway LOL.

Anyways, I got that taken care of this morning. It was reduced from $370 to $72...less than the original price.

Officers in 'Fornia pull you people over for seatbelt offenses? And they cost how much?

Over here it's a secondary charge. As in, if an officer pulls you over for something else and observes you have no belt on, then it's added to the original charge. And it's a $50 punch in the face.

I know a few names of the little guys in car insurance. Royal Sun Alliance or Traveler's Insurance Company are small, but can serve some good rates.

Also, provided your parents are of age and approve, and if you can stand to essentially not own your car, you can always get car insurance from AARP. They have fantastic rates as well.

I have learned over the years of owning DSM's and other "sports" cars to always keep this handy with you when you go to and insurance company.

Yeah. Drop the collision insurance off your GSX, but keep comprehensive, and put it in storage for a year or so. That will save you alot of money. Then invest a few hundred bucks into a beater car and put PLPD on it. Just wait for that ticket to fall off your insurance record or for your rates to drop. You will save alot of money with the beater - money you can eventually use for mods and/or insurance costs on the GSX when it comes out of storage. :dsm:

Dude, it can't be that bad. You should just cancel with them. I am an insurance agent. And even I, being 20, have 2 speeding tickets, 2 driving under suspension, a DUI and reckless driving. And it is about 350 a month. Sorry I am at work and didn't have time to read the thread{quote}<--*EDIT(see I am at work I put quote) but if you want you can pm me some basic info and I can get you a quote.
