WTF WTF WTF Who are you guys with that you can pay around $100 a month for full coverage??? I'm 20 with 1 ticket, and I pay $204 a month... NOT full coverage...
not just full coverage, full on one vehicle, liability on another 114. sorry I was wrong earlier. I forgot mine went up a few bucks when I added the GST...
29, 1 ticket 18 months ago (accident with that ticket) (3 tickets in lifetime, only 1 accident)
no discounts other than milti car.

So my 114 is all me. No parents, nothing.

my tsi awd, no tickets, liability only, $154/month . :( i gotta find something cheaper

None of you guys have it as bad as me. I'm paying about 5 grand a year for just liability. I don't even wanna say how much I pay a month. It puts knots in my stomach. Jersey is seriously the worst insurance state ever.

I'm 32 with a clean record. I pay $135 a month for full coverage for a '95 car.

Thomas91169 is more or less right, you're just going to have to deal with it because of your age and where you live. The most you can do really is to complain about the rate increase and shop around for something cheaper.

If I take off the one deductable where if the accident is my fault, my car won't be covered, I will save about 1200 a year.

I'm 16 with a bad speeding ticket (53 in a 25) and a GDL violation (driving after midnight) and no points left on my license, and I get bad grades. Its something like $280 a month for full coverage. Thats high, but thats what I get for being a little 16 year old punk. :toobad: :notgood: Glad my parents pay for it.

Yeah, IMO your getting screwed. I'd shop around a bit. :dsm:

Its true what you said about jersey, i hate this shit!

Okay, so I was just messing around on the Progressive website with insurance quotes. It's not who we go through for insurance, but our insurance company's website sucks and I can't get quotes from it.

Now, I'm a 16 year old with a 1995 Talon ESi. No violations, I live in the country.

My insurance according to them for minimum insurance is $188 a month.

Insurance for a 2006 Porsche 911 Turbo is $159 a month for minimum insurance.

WTF.

WTF.

My best guess is that they insure exotic cars under the assumption that they won't be driven much at all, since most owners of such cars don't use them for anything but country club functions and occasional trolling for hookers.

I put that the use would be for personal (to and from work/school/etc.)

Hell, just for the fun of it, I put I'd be using it for farming and there was a snowplow on it and it was still cheaper than my Talon.

that sucks for you. I have 2 DUI's and i have 2 cars with minimum and i only pay 190 and thats with SR-22 ins

That's rough. Try using your parent's plan and have one of them as the primary driver? It worked for me, 3200 to 2400/yr.

its the same reason a cobra costs less to insure than a GT, and just a little more expensive than a v6, because since its limited production(rarer) its thought that you will drive it less and drive it more cautiously.

wow... too much info to retain for me on this post.
im seeing guys who are paying 1400 on insurance and then 3600.
my friend with a 97 talon tsi is paying about 1400 but im not sure if thats what it will be if i buy a 96 GST. i cannot buy the car until my mom knows what insurance will be due to the fact im 16 - will need to pay off a loan - had a minor ticket for blowing a stop sign - but am on the b honor roll. you must understand that my mom is crazy and believes insureance will be over 400-500 just because i have a small loan to pay off WTF . when i get the loan payed off she thinks it will be about 300-400 and i really dont think this is right. ive seen more guys on here paying 1400 than 3000+ a year. ive heard... that all i have to do is register the car as my parents and me being the secondary driver but she still thinks insurance will be through the roof...

soorry for the novel but my mom is pissin me off n i have to get a lot of things off my chest LOL.

but any reply is much appreciated. THANK YOU for everything and as this is my first post, id like to say what an amazing site this is.

thanks again,
Matt :dsm:

I would like to get this off my chest, because this thread makes sense for the Newbie forum, as it has no intrinsic value, sorry.

Insurance rates are incomparable as there are too many factors, and you CANNOT meet them all.

For instance, when you go to get car insurance, here are the main factors:

Car classification
Driving record
Location of vehicle (home)
vehicle storage (garage or street, etc)
Miles driven per year
miles driven to work/school each day
Credit History
Rent/Own house
Employment duration
Previous insurance
Policy discounts (renewal, multiple car, multiple policy, etc)

This doesn't even go into the fact that there are SO MANY different levels of coverage it is sickening. Sure you and Joe blow might both have just liability, but yours is 100/300/100 and his is 25/50/25- no wonder he pays less (assuming EVERY other factor is the same)

I can tell you that I'm paying $207/mo for the Talon, the GVR4, and renters insurance, and some of you might be lower, and some might be higher. I could mention that i run $500 deductibles, and full everything for coverage (I'm only 100/300/100 instead of 250/500/250 or 500/1m/500 though).

It has so little bearing on your life it's pointless.

Cliffs Notes:

Your insurance rate != Anyone Else's insurance rate*

Thanks for listening.

*Note: != means "does not equal" as would =/=, it's a coding expression.

i am paying about 1300$ a year and that is just being a driver on my parents thing... they said for me to get full coverage on my car it would be more than what i payed for the car every year thats more than 6000$ a year! that is rediculous.... my car is completely stock and isnt even turbo insurance companies are rediculous

Ok, well I totalled my old car (camaro) and I decided I want to go for an eclipse GS-T, I was wondering if any of you guys would have an idea how the insurance for like a 97-99 would be for a 16 year old in Maryland. And before you say anything about me totalling my camaro, it was the fault of the lady who hit me, she crossed a double yellow line and came into oncoming traffic and nailed me.

I was in the same situation back when I was 16 and the 2g's just came out. The cars were new so their value was much higher, resulting in about twice the insurance cost for a turbo model under my insurance company (USAA) - so I went with the RS.. which still had rediculous premiums for being a 2 door sports car. Since the value of the dsm isn't very much now the premiums will still be a bit lower.. go with a 1g 6-bolt to save even more since the kbb value will be less, you'll have a car that costs less, a car that weighs less, and you won't bother thinking about an engine swap in the future.

Any rough estimate as to the price of them? I was paying around 160-170 a month for my Camaro, it was a v6 :( should i be paying more or less with the gs-t?

I would say around the same

Exhibition of Speed ticket last year. She said I spun my tires. That's funny.

Long story short, I wasn't able to fight it. I can get into details about that tomorrow....just too pissed to tonight.

It's now over a year later and State Farm called. My car is now $731 A MONTH to insure. Apparently, exhibition of speed is considered racing, which is as bad as a DUI.

The sad part is, no one even believes me. They look at my car, my age, my appearance and assume I'm some crazy little street racer kid...when in reality, I drive more like the typical vette owners.

I just don't know what to do. It's been over a year since the ticket... can I do ANYTHING?

I will never sell my car. It's been my dream since I was 13. But I can't pay that rate...I've never even heard of something that high. How will I get to class? Work?

Am I going to be forced to go to a cheap ass insurance company and get liability just because I went full throttle for a whopping two seconds?

Any advice?
