Insurance [Merged 10-6]

Alright, I don't know if all of these have been added or not, there were a lot of posts and I'm kind of lazy this morning.

I've worked in insurance agencies for 7 years, 3 of them were actually as an agent.
1 - if you do decide to go for liab. only, get medical coverage to cover the injuries of the people in your vehicle.
2 - the reason that your company probably didn't catch your ticket before is because they only run MVRs every few years, usually at about your policy renewal time.
3 - a lot of the cheaper rates are probably because of age, multiple vehicle discounts, multiple lines of coverage discounts (home insurance, health insurance, vehicle insurance at all one company)
4 - if you change companies a lot, you'll lose "good customer" discounts.
5 - talk to your agent about if the Alive At 25 courses offered by the State Police Department will get you a discount... in CO it's a 6 hour, $25 class and a lot of companies give 5 - 10% discounts for it.
6 - and if you do go with super cheap full coverage insurance, ask around about how they handle claims. I currently work in a body shop and a lot of our customers have huge problems with the smaller insurance companies paying for all of their damages.

that's all I can think of atm, if I think of anything else I'll let you know... :)

Hey guys, I just got my second speeding ticket in under a year last night. Gotta stop being an idiot. But I have a question about insurance if anyone knows. I have heard multiple things. I've heard:

A - Your first ticket doesn't affect insurance (which it didn't), but the second one will kill you

Or

B - The insurance company won't know about the ticket unless I make a claim

Does it just depend on my insurance company? I have allstate. Any help would be great.

Not sure about the first one...might vary from state to state. But I can tell you that the second one is absolutely not true. If that was true, no one would have any tickets on their record, LOL.

Your best bet would be to call the city hall and ask them about a diversion. They are really really leanient in my town and I know people who have had multiple in a month and nothing on their record. So call city hall and ask, although it could raise the cost of the ticket but keeps it off of record. Another option could be to go ahead and go to court and talk to the judge and hopefully he/she will be nice and move it to non-moving, again happens a lot in my town.

Have you thought about maybe something like Defensive Driving as an option? That will clear the ticket from your record, and in some cases even lower your insurance.

Also...
You could pay a traffic lawyer to fight the ticket for you in court if morals aren't a problem (haha). I have done this before....Good traffic lawyers know the loopholes and can get you off on a technicality. Might be worth a try, and the ticket never shows up on your record...

I don't think that they'll let that fly for 82 in a 55...but thanks, I'll try calling

What is defensive driving? Like a class or something?

Doesn't matter what the ticket is for. Usually the lawyer never even needs to show up in court....It's all paperwork.

Check your local Yellow Pages for Traffic Law (under Attorneys). I've had them clear tickets from my record that were worse than 82 in a 55, so no worries there.

And Defensive Driving is a class, yeah. I'm not sure how you would go about signing up for it. Maybe call the number on the back of the ticket and ask the clerk if your county offers it. There are classes offered online for it as well. I think some counties call it "Deferred Adjudication".

Alright thanks a lot. That would be sweet if I could take a class to lower the rates. I already have the good student discount thing. By the way, how will I find out how much insurance went up? Just when I get the next bill?

I have allstate.

Your hosed. I had allstate and my insurance doubled from a 10 mph over ticket that was changed to a defective vehicle ticket.

I have Allstate too...I believe that they let the first two point speeding ticket slide under their first ticket forgiveness rule. This rule is only good if you have no other tickets or points on your record. I believe that's what they told me when I asked. I had gotten a careless driving ticket(two points) for making a k turn in the entrance of a closed road. They did not let that slide however...so I tend to think it's just your first two point speeding ticket. Rates will vary from state to state...but 27 over will land you a healthy increase anywhere. Allstate will send you a notice in the mail stating any changes made in your policy.

I just have a couple questions...

First... We just bought a highly modified GSX with no sensors and no cat... Oregon for GSX only does the OBO II hook up for testing does anyone know what sensors I need to put back just for testing to pass???

Second... We also want to know if anyone has been able to get an insurance policy to take into account all the modifications so you are not out all the money from the upgrades?????

Thanks!!!

Lyndi

What do you mean by no senors ?? ... like you have the rear o2 off or something?? ... and does the car have a check engine light ??

Whoa. How much time do you have before you need to re register. Hopefully you have some stock stuff, I would have left all the equipment and wires in place just in case. You'll probably need a stock ecu if your car can idle and run and rev properly with it still but i have seen guys tune with their safc and pass with cars that shouldn't. I dont know about oregon but we check for:
cat, maybe tap it to see if it's hollow
no check engine light, no emmisions codes present (obd 2)
CARB stickers, kinda
visual for evap, egr etc.
Supposedly all emissions equipment must be in place and unaltered.
all of this is subject to the inspector and how lazy he is. i just care if it passes.
my advice is find a way to register in a non-emissions county if possible or make good friends with an inspector. Oh and i think rubbing alcohol can help reduce N0x if you have a prob with it. dunno for sure but i have seen people use it.

From my experience, most insurance companies will not hit you with the rate change until your next renewal. I had thought I was safe and got through the ordeal with my insurance until my renewal and my insurance went up about 63%. Which is why I dropped All-State like a bad habit. On a side note, they finally sent me the policy difference credit of $60 3 years after I cancelled my policy. The jerks.

just pay someone like 200 buck and a smog shop and forget about it. I use to work for an insurance company and they will probably insurance stuff like your rims and maybe your sound system, you just have to pay extra

i was just wondering how much every one pays for insurance a month and who they go through? my insurance is in my mothers name and i want to switch it to my name and i got a quote and it trippled LOL......lets just say my records not that great.....
-nick-

$280 a month for three vehicles. 23 years old. 1999 Oldsmobile LSS(supercharged) $175/month full coverage, 1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 $80/month full coverage, 1969 Chevy C/20 $25/moth liability.

This is through progressive insurance.

Steven

I pay $188 a month for liability only through Geico. Most other companies rejected me. My driving career didn't start off very well if you can tell.

40 buck's a month under my fathers insurence for now.io cant afford insurence on my own not with one accident not my fault got off with faulty road conidtions, yet they still charged my up the ass for it and 5 moving violations so i gotta wait awile till i can get my own again.

80.66/mo for comprehensive coverage & uninsured motorist for my 93 GSX and my wife's 02 Lancer ES. Of course being over 25, married, and having a homeowner's policy with the same company (Traveller's) helps out immensely. Having a clean slate helps too.

You can get a policy that will cover all the parts on your car. It just costs more. You will need to figure out the replacement cost of all your aftermarket parts and add that to the blue book value of your car. Then ask for an insurance policy for that amt of money, so that if your car got stolen, they'd just give you that amount.

They quoted me something like $35 per month more than a regular policy (that's with a perfect driving record and a bunch of discounts etc) so it may be more for you.

Without this policy, you'd be SOL if your car got stolen...They'd only give blue book value or replacement value.
