$148 a month for full coverage...21 yrs old...5 moving violations in 2 yrs...Florida First Ins. Co.

WOW - my 21 yr old son pays 165/mo for basic and he's an A student at UF in Gainesville with NO tickets. I'll be callin Florida First tomorow!!!:thumb:

Anyone paying as much for insurance in a year as their car is worth is NUTS! A car is the biggest waste of money to begin with, and you are going to pay 2-3 grand a year just to insure your $4k car? Doesn't make sense to me. My talon is $30 a month, and if it's going to be down for at least 4 weeks, I put that puppy on hold and pay $4 a month in case of fire/theft.

The ignorance in this country and willingness to put up with this crap instead of using/demanding public transportation is the reason I can't even take a train from my house to the airport. The demand isn't there because everyone is happy driving in traffic for 2 hours and then paying $20 a day for parking at O'hare. I'd prefer a $3 train ticket and leave my car in the garage.

*off my soapbox* but really, think about why you are going to pay $10,000 of insurance over the next five years for a car that is worth diddly. Find a better deal. You are getting screwed.

I have progressive I pay $200 50/100/50.

Just to let everyone know that there is no such thing as full coverage, I just got done taking a class to get my agents license, and no matter how much limits you have it will never be full coverage.

All of you are lucky in my eyes . At least you get a choice of multiple agents. In Manitoba we only have one as far as I know. Here you're rates are based more on the type of car you drive rather than who is driving it. My talon and my truck cost me 150 cnd (about 20 american) per month and thats insured to the maximum, wether I insure it with my clean record or my wife does with her less than perfect record.

We've got a 92 Talon TSi AWD - bone stock, super condition, original owners (wife's car). :D Was planning to sell & buy new car, but have since decided to dump some money into this 1, upgrade it, & keep it (just basic Stage 1 upgrade, new paint, etc.). What do you all do with your insurance after you've spent a bunch of money on upgrades & your car no longer even remotely resembles stock form? We had recently taken off the collision coverage since the car was getting older & we thought we were going to sell it. What happens if it's stolen or in an accident? Does the insurance co. only give you blue book for the stock car? What if you provided proof of cost of all the upgrades? I tried searching for info on this but could only find a gazillion threads on "How much do you pay for insurance?". :(

most insurance companys only are gonna give you what the car is worth but you can pay a fee to have them appraise the car and then they will give you coverage for the appraised value of the car, of course that will increase your rates though, since all ins companies are different your best way is to contact your ins rep and ask these same questions

if all the stuff is stole, theyll pay to fix the car back to stock form(i.e broken windows, locks, paint, etc). if the car is stolen wit mods, you get blue book value.

mods do NOT add equity. i wouldnt even talk to the rep, then theyll know somethings up. just realize that if they know the car is possibly modified, theyll either raise your rates(cause youre looked at as a high risk streetracer type), or drop you all together(gieko status).

If you have comprehensive coverage, that will cover all of your not at fault stuff, like your car getting stolen, rock ships or cracks front windshield, etc. If your in an accident with the car and you don't have collision you wont get anything for the car. My mods are covered under my policy if anything happens to them I get like $2000 for it all. Some Insurance Companies have a extra coverage that you can add to your policy for another charge and will cover a certain amount. The amount for that coverage all depends on how much mods you have and how much its worth.

Also on getting money for the car what I've heard at Mercury is if your insurance company wants to give you the money that the car is worth and you think the car is worth more than what they are saying. You can do your own search and look for in your case a 92 talon TSI AWD and find I think its 2 to 3 in the price range that you are looking for and show that to your agent they will give you the value of what you found.

I'm in the process of getting my insurance license. If there is anything else you need to know, I can find out for you.

Thanks for the replies & info. Pretty much what I expected. Guess we'll have to see when we're done how much money we throw into it & if it's worth having the add-on to the policy to cover the mods. Insurance co. is USAA & they're pretty cool, so I doubt they'd dump us altogether, probably just raise the rates to cover the extra parts.

Well, I'm 16, hoping to get a DSM within the next month, and am seriously getting steered away because my dad is telling me the insurance will be CRAZY on them. So can abody tell me, from experience what the $$ per year increases, like by how much if at all.

I have AAA right now, covered under my parents vehicles (2003 Chevy truck, 2000 Bravada) but i know when i get my own car is when i will get nailed. Also, i have a B average so i will be getting the good grades discount, but I doubt the will make the cost more plesent.

there shouldn't be any increases from year to year unless if you get points on your liscense or get in an accident, if you want a 1g or even a 95-96 you can just get comprehensive and it won't be bad

So, starting off on a fresh clean slate, no tickets or anything, there shouldn;t be any difference in coverage from a old beat up buick bus, to a 98 gs-t. I find that hard to belive, that turbo under the hood with a male in the passenger seat = high speeds, insurance companies aren't stupid, they know this.

Male= money, 2 door sports car= money, turbo= money, 16= massive amounts of extra money. Its just how it is man, i had to go through it just like most of us. Lucky for us the insurance companys trippled the cost back a few years ago whoohooo.

But there should only be decreases as the years go by, unless of course you get tickets.

now i never said that, a 98 is gonna probably run you a decent amount depending on where you live, and will definetly be more than an old beat up buick. But, as I said if you get a 1g awd it'll probably cost you under a grand a year for insurance. start searchin around for some online quotes just to get an idea this way you'll know if you can afford it but insurance costs vary way to much state to state and person to person along with car to car. Hell my RS is nearly 2.5k b/c I had an accident and it was 1600 when i first got my license.

Well, right now it 100/month for my insurance by what my mom says, just a guestimate by someone from experience, how much would they tac on.

I have just liability on my car, and it didn't change the rate when I was driving a Saturn to now where I've got the Talon. At least for my insurance company it didn't matter what the car was apparently.

not to be rude, but instead of asking us to guess, why don't you just call (or have your mom call) your insurance company and get a quote, get one for a gst/gsx some companies charge less for a gsx b/c its awd

Heh, i pay more for my car than the other 3 cars we have combined. It's just the way it is though... I'm 20 with a sports car. I have a really clean record, no speeding tickets, no accidents. If I didn't have that, I'm sure it would be more.

I will say that when I got rid of my rs and was looking for awd, comprehensive was going to be about the same unless I got a ticket. Full coverage was going to be quite a bit more. I believe comprehensive was like $115 a month for my car and thats for a 97-99, the 95-96 was like $106. As long as you keep your driving record clean, prices will only stay the same or decrease. I recommend calling though because it does differ from state to state.
