So, I picked up a 1G alternator last night and the guy I bought it from said it will work in a 2G, and that the only difference is the wiring harness.. I'm in the process of pulling the old one out now.. has anyone done this before and have any tips for me? I sure hope that this WILL WORK cuz if it doesn't i'll be giving him a call..

Just double checking with you guys and girls. I have a 95 Talon TSI AWD. The wiring harness for it it a 4 wire. I just got a alternator off another 95 Talon TSI AWD, but this alternator is a 2 wire. Double checking. Also, someone mentioned a power switch?? Any help would be great. I'm running a optima red top for the battery. Don't feel like blowing it yet. Thanks Everybody, Josh

Anybody get a P1500 code when doing this swap?
Yeah, Sewey's is throwing that same code due to the two wires that aren't being used anymore. That seems to be the only downfall. Although that code doesn't seem to be affecting anything - it's just always there.

any fix for that besides dsm link? i cant get through emissions because of it? and doesn't the voltage from the field coil regulate the idle?

LOL I do have the right alternator on there, was just looking for ways around the p1500 code thats all. Figured if the swap worked without throwing the code i have plenty of 1g parts laying around just swap it and forget it.

So if put a 2g alternator on a 1g I will get a code by default even if I wire it correctly?

Sorry but I had to ask since this is mostly 1g alternator into a 2g. I want to investigate putting a 2g alternator in a 1g.

Thanks

Would it be out of the question to use the alternator that was previously in the car, or was the alternator the reason you bought the JDM seven bolt in the first place?

Alrighty then. I'll take your deleted post as a thank you. You're welcome!

Hey no problem. I just didn't want to get reamed a new one for posting gibberish to a two+ year old thread.
