Hey guys, I pulled my front drivers side wheel off to see if the wheels I bought from a '92 3000gt VR4 would fit (17x8.5 with 245/45's on it) and of course they would rub the strut tower. I bought these wheels so that I could run the VR4 4-piston calipers, my stock 16's definately wouldn't fit with those larger calipers. But I noticed that the tire I pulled off was wore bald on the inside, is this just an alignment issue? I tried checking the ball joint but there appears to be no movement there. My shock absorbers I know are TERRIBLE. So I am trying to decide what to replace them with. Are there any shock absorbers that will give me more clearance for a wider tire? Or am I stuck with coil overs? I need help deciding what to do. I don't have a ton of money to spend but I don't want ebay crap either.

I would suspect your alinement is out. But if you have to change the suspension relpace it first because you will need another alinement after you cange it. Or just go pay for a lifetime alinement and no worrys.

Inside the tire or the inside edge of the tire? inside the tire itself is from low air preussre----inside edge would be a camber or toe problem, more than often it is neg camber.

if its just the inside its probably a toe issue, if you have had the tires on there a long time then it could be a camber issue but that usually takes a while to surface. knock the toe out far enough and you can ruin a tire in less than 5k miles

Bad shocks is more common to "spotting" of the tread, or cupping it. But inside edge wear is 85% toe-out, 10% driving for quite some time on low air pressure, 5% camber, unless you have the thing dropped to the ground. But normally less than 4degrees negative camber with maintained proper or slightly higher air pressures you wont notice at all. especially not on the front.

Step 1- Check your tie rods, ball joints, wheel bearings, strut mounts, control arm bushings
Step 2- Get an alignment. Struts or not, align it. Pending how bad your struts are, its not ALWAYS (no one jump on my ass about this) essential to align the car after you replace them. Good idea to have it double checked, but I have noticed no adverse effects from it. Unless you are lowering the car then you can ignore that and align it again.
