Confirmed again, 245/40/17 on a 17x9 +35 5zigen fno1rcs on my friends car. He is lowered, no rubbing. Intrax springs/stock gsx struts.

Lookin at everybody's setups below, you guys need more camber!! Zero out the toe and go crazy on camber. Itll also help with fitting a bit more tire.

Waiting for my DG setup to be done and then I can install it with the SPC upper arms :sneaky:

Any recommendations on how negative to go with camber? I was thinking -2.5* in the front and -1.75* in the rear to start with.

Tsi, it was a 99 or 2GB. Ill have to get pics. Ive done multiple sets of 17x9 +35 and +30 17x8s with 245 hoosiers and 245 street tires. Theres room for a 255......with some camber and maybe just a bit of a roll. I dont slam my car though.

As for negative camber that sounds like a good starting point. I honestly wouldnt mind even going just a bit more by .25 of a degree front and rear.

If you really want to know, do a skidpad test and measure the temps outside/middle/inside to see where your building up heat in the carcass to see if you need more or less.

well i came up on a deal for some gramlights 57C in a 17x8.5 +30, so i will just be running a 245/40,

i think i will still need to roll the fender a bit, but shouldent be too much

I'm currently running 255/40/17 Khumo ECSTA MX on Evo 8 wheels, with no fitment issues whatsoever. No spacers and I'm set at stock ride height. I obviously have 2gb rear knuckles, and its insanely close in the rear. I'm almost nervous to try a different type of 255 for fear that manufacturer specs will be slightly different. Just thought I would throw in my .02

Good to know. I need a new set of tires and I'm trying to decide if i should drop to a 245 to run the tire that i want to run. Either that or I'll just stick with the MXs, as I know they fit.

Out of curiosity, where do you go to find your section width specs?

Manufacturer's website.

For example, here's the page for the MX's. At the top, you'll see a link that says "Size &Technical Data". In there, you'll find a column that says section width. Most websites post in mm but for some reason Kumho shows inches.

FWIW, I like the Star Specs. Have only had one weekend of racing on them and a few days of street driving, but they stick!

Here's a handy calculator.
http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp
It will help you compare your current set-up and clearance to your projected set-up and interferences... LOL

I would get tire specs from the tire manufacturer, compare them to the projected tire width numbers in the calculator and estimate suspension/fender clearances.
For example, 255/25.4=10.04.
But 255/40/17 Nitto NT-01 "Section Width" is reported as 10.35".
So for me, I'd add half the difference or .160" to the tires clearances at the fender and knuckle.

I was under the impression that 255/40/17's on 17x9 +35 Nitto NT-01's would fit on a 2gb.
The fenders will need to be rolled, but they need to be anyway!
You're probably going to run at the very least -2* camber on all 4 corners anyway.
Obviously this will help with fender clearances issues, but can decrease knuckle clearance.

I've been shopping around for tires and just looked up the section width specs of the set that I'm probably going to buy. My Khumo ECSTA MXs are a known fit in the 255/40/17 size, so I used that as a measuring point when shopping. Their specs list the MX at 259.08mm, which clears my rear knuckles by about 3mm. BFG G-force KDWs in the 245/40/17 size are listed as a 246.38mm which should clear based on the math and what I have on my car. Out of curiosity I ran the numbers for 255/40/17s in the KDWs and found that they are 259.08mm, exactly the same as my MXs. The slight hitch is that Khumo lists their section width specs on a 9 inch wide wheel, and I am running them on a 8 inch wide wheel. BFG doesn't specify an exact wheel width, just a range. Does anyone have any experience running the KDWs on a 17x8 +38? Trying to figure out if i need to drop to a 245 or not.

My 245s (KA-TW) look a bit meaty on my 17x8s, so I have to agree. On a 9" rim...sure.

17x8.5+30 245/40/17 Sumitomo HTR Z III

I can fit one finger between the tire and the knuckle in the rear and almost 2 fingers in the front

fenders will be rolled but my 20g died on my way home from the tire shop so 1st things 1st LOL

bringing it back...

all the info has been much appreciated but im still lost. i guess on the track under load all is going to change anyway. i just want to get as much rubber under me as i can without....
a. rubbing
b. sticking out and looking retarded
c. looking small and hideous

i dont care if i need to roll the fenders, fine with me, i have my coilovers pretty low, so low that i cant fit a jack under it without it being driven on wooden planks. so with that said and if i adjust the camber in the fronts and rear on 2gb knuckles all around should i be gold with a 17x8 with a 245?

im also thinking a 18 wouldnt be too bad. will probably fill the wheel well nice. im using oem evo 10 wheels right now. they look great, fit ok...but im afraid of putting them on the track and seeing how they are going to be under load

You should be fine with Evo X's on the track.
You run your CO's full hard on the track right?

I run 255/40/17 Toyo RA-1's on a set of 17x9 with a +35mm offset.
The R-Comps section width is about 10.4" wide.
Everything fits without rubbing at all.
I'll measure from the axle center to the bottom of my fender and report back.
I'm pretty sure I can not fit two fingers under the fenders either, but I might be mistaken.

Get 18's, it will open the door to many more race tires. Most advice in this thread is in regards to street tires. Race tires are squared, street tires are rounded, they will fit differently.

actually i was running medium the last event i used but ive since sold my 8 wheels and have 10 now but im going to adjust them to full hard for the next event and maybe ill use the 10 wheels. i might roll out my fenders a hair just to be safe and run a 5mm spacer all around as well as maybe touch a lil camber to make it a lil more flush fitting

here are my 17x8 evo 8 wheels with 235/40/17 sitting

here they are under load on a carousel corner with co's dropped about 1.75" all around and set to medium stiffness

and here are my now 18x8.5 evo 10 wheels with 245/40/18 proxes sitting

but i dont know...im worried about the load on the 10 wheels vs my knuckles/fenders but maybe camber/co stiffness will be key to that, i might drop the rear down a tad more to offset the load on the front...time to start gutting the car maybe to reduce the weight of the load?? LOL

Nice color Brian, very nice. I'm just hoping the 45 profile on these RE11's (245/17)along with these spacers will prevent rubbing on the suspension.
