So I just finished rebuilding my engine and getting my car back together. I put about 15 miles on it for the first drive and found a gear oil leak coming from the shift fork boot, it turns out it has to be my input shaft seal which seems like I'm going to have to teardown the tranny (fwd) to get to it.

Does anyone have any info on anything I'm going to need to replace while I'm in there such as any other seals or bearings etc (mind I haven't had any issues with my transmission other than the leak).

I've never taken apart a transmission and I just need to know if I have to actually disassemble everything or what I have to do at the minimum to replace the seal. I'm also thinking about going with a Quaife LSD while I'm in there. Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated as I really wanna drive the car again since I've already had to down for months thanks.

You can get to the tranny selector shaft seal by removing the shift linkage on top of it. It's not easy as the tapered, press fit pins are a pain the knock out (tapered meaning they only go in or out in one direction). I wouldn't try this with the tranny in the car either, space is very limited without having to remove a bunch of other stuff for access too. Beats having to tear down the tranny like the serice manual shows though & you still have to knock the pins out.

Heard that I'll do some more research, any specific tools I might need? And I do have the tranny already out of the car cleaned up and ready to take apart. So I shouldn't have to order anything other than the lsd diff I'm thinking about putting in and a new seal right?

I'm not familiar with the FWD trans, but it can't be too much different than AWD. Definitely replace any rubber seal you can, such as the axle seals. If you do disassemble it, the case is re-sealed with RTV like Permatex Ultra Grey. The input shaft seal is all the way in the bottom of the bell housing (at least in 1g AWD) and requires all the gearsets, shift linkage, etc. to be removed to gain access to it. There are two large nuts holding the gearsets in place that require a 36mm socket (again, speaking for 1g AWD so please double check). If you plan to do any bearings, that will at very least require a gear puller (if you are clever with your spacers) or a press, and a bearing separator.

Yep. You'll need an air hammer to get the pins out (& maybe some ear plugs, hammering the pins was like ringing the Liberty Bell). Forewarn, it was not fun when I did mine, it was leaking like yours sounds like.
