I know I saw a website that sells these for our cars. Something like the cops use. Anyone know where to get them? For Dsmlink of course. Thanks!

Scott

Your best bet is going to look on ebay or make your own! Time to do some welding....

I had actually thought about making my own but if nothing else, I'd like to get a good look at one to get ideas of the best way to make em. Need pictures :(

I've been searching and searching and searching. This is about the best one I've found so far and this one's made specifically for dsm's (1g's anyway. Dunno about 2g's).

Runs for about $225 though and can be found at http://www.tmfparts.2ya.com/
I may just get it for mine.

the 25 dollar one on ebay is actually pretty decent. I've seen it installed on another car, and it just works.. yeah, its cheap, yeah, its made of home depot parts, however its solid, can be made so that it doesn't interfere with the passanger, and does exactly what it should... why spend more, when you can get the job done perfectly well for less.

Its where my money is going.

I have one in my car right now that I made, all it is made of is some 1" square steel tubing, and 1/4" lexan, it all together weighs maybe a pound and is only a pin away from being removed, looks a ton less bulky than the one pictured above.

Will post pics later.

I think I may just build one myself but close to the one posted above. I went to Lowe's tonight and looked around and was able to find most of the parts to make it for cheap. I can already weld and may buy a tig welder here soon so it wouldn't be a problem for me. The major difference's though is that I'd have the bar coming up on the very left side instead of the middle and allow it to swing over the passenger's legs if a passenger were wanting to sit there, and make it clamp to the laptop a tad differently. I don't like the way the metal looks where it would clamp to it. Probably a pain to adjust as well. Still allowing for height adjustment though. But I really like how the one above clamps solidly to the seat bolts and has a quick release to pull it out.

Please do. Trying to get as many ideas as I possibly can and would like to keep the weight down.

Also, does anyone know where you can buy plexi-glass and do you know if you can bend it?

Here is my setup, it weighs all togethery maybe 2 lbs. and is made of only plexi glass, 1" square tubing, velcro and a pin. It completely disconnects from the car with only the pull of a pin and the computer is held with velcro. Works Great!!!

Can your laptop swivel up or down? I've been kinda wanting that but I'm kinda stumped as to what to use for that to make it do so. Other than that, I was at Lowe's again and looked around for probably over an hour for the best parts I could use. I ended up finding a washer thing for cleaning gutters that's aluminum and telescopes up and down. Can be tightened in the middle for the height. Gonna cut off each end and weld a bracket at the top of one end and the base that'll disconnect at the other. It'll also allow the laptop to swivel from left to right.

Also, found plexi-glass that's pretty thick but don't know what the best thing would be to cut it to size without it looking all hacked up. Wanting a smooth finish on the edges.

Mind if I ask where you got the velcro strap?

How does the top of the laptop standup to hard launching without closing on ya? Of course I'm shooting for pretty good et's so that's another concern of mine.

The rest I'm sure I can figure out fairly easily enough. Thanks for the pics by the way. Looks good :thumb:

Naw it doesnt swivel, its pretty much stationary, but its in the perfect spot so I dont mind it. I also didnt want to make the stand too difficult or look to bulky, simpler is better.

And as for the launch, no it has never even gotten close to closing on me. It is at a good angle i guess.

And the velcro strap I just picked up at walgreens its two 18" long strips that go all the way across the top and folds under on both sides so it doesnt lift up when im pulling the laptop off of it.

The car has less than 50k miles on it, im kinda goin by the if it aint broke dont #### with it routine. The parking brake works perfect and its not dragging so I leave it.

By the way though Since when did you start dumbing down and leaving useless comments, I though that was just for the stupid newbs to do?

scottr126 - Thats looks very nice. I like it because it's clean and simple. I'm going to try to fab up something similar this winter.

How did you attach the 1" tuning to the plexiglass?

1" Tubing has a flat piece of 1/8" steel welded to the top on kind of a crazy angle and then the plexi glass is just screwed to that.

Here's the pics of it but the problem I see is that no passengers are gonna be riding with that thing in there unless they're in the backseat.

anyone ever run into their laptop being damaged by not having any type of "padding" on these things? Seeing as how they are basically hard-mounted to the chasis. Seems as the vibrations from shitty pavement could likely damage an expensive computer but I don't know. I'd just hate to have my 1300$ laptop damaged :p

Unless your car is riding on no suspension and you have a really cheap laptop I dont think they would get damaged.

My car is on ground control coilovers and my laptop doesnt get shaken bad at all.
