Glenn, I would be interested in a bracket when you get time.

Also, did you ever get some of the small pulleys made and tested?

Just ordered the 105amp saturn alternator with the self exciting regulator from motorcityreman and have a question...can the stock 8ga wires going to the alternator still be used? They just go to the fuse box where there is a fuse then to the battery correct? Would like to be able to use the stock wires until I get around to relocating my alternator where the ac is.

I know it has been said to just run a 4ga wire straight to the battery but wouldn't using the stock wires be the same thing?

Yea, the stock wires will work, but they are sure to be corroded from years of use as well as being a little small, which both of these things will hamper the charging efficiency a little, nothing major really, but most of us change them out for 4 guage just because we're alreayd there working on the system and want to have everything upgraded to the best possible parts we have access to

Awesome :thumb: That's what I was wanting to know. I may replace them soon after installing it but would rather wait until the engine is out later this year to do it

Hrmm i need a 2g alteantor for my 1g tp 2g harness swap maybe ill do this instead did anyone ever get a part # for the pigtail for the alt? and what satrun alt had 108 amps?

Does anyone have any pictures of how the mounted their jay racing alternator relocation kit with the motor city reman alternator? I can't seem to figure out where to mount the tensioner and tensioner bracket on the back of the block

Edit: well I figured out where the tensioner bracket mounts, but the tensioner rod is almost fully extended to get the belt tight. There is only about 1 thread on each heim joint that is threaded in. So I either need to figure out a slightly shorter belt, which may not work due to the alternator being very close to the timing cover as it is, or a way to extend the tensioner arm, with a longer coupler or longer heims joints.

The other issue I noticed is that the belt slightly rubs againt the motor mount bracket on the block, so i may need to shave a little bit off that to make sure it doesnt eat the belt. Once i figure these things out, will post an update with pictures incase anyone else runs into this issue

That was from me. That's the first Saturn alternator on a DSM. I got that one from a pull a part just to mock it up. That thing worked pretty good. Lol

I appologize for multiple reasons. But before performing this change on my car I want to confirm some information.

I seem to be confused on the directions and discussion in the thread as to the right way to perform the wiring. The directions appear to be for a person who owns a 97 turbo. But, would these directions apply to my 90 gsx? Or would I use the first set of directions that this improvement thread came from?

Sorry and thanks I'm just looking for clarification and confirmation on wiring for a 90 before doing this my self.

Just to confirm, the part number at Advance Auto parts for the 3-wire pigtail to these Saturn alternators is 85854. The manufacturer is Dorman and on the back of the box it says "use with GM regulators 1116411 and 1116408".

How are you guys grounding the alternator? Also, I relocated my battery to the trunk and I am stumped on the wiring. On my alternator there a nut on a stud with an orange cable and under the stud it says BAT obviously meaning battery. I have a 4 pin connector. help is appriciated.

so just to be 100% sure. i bought the alt from motor city WITH the mitsu regulator. i dont need to connect nothing to it right? just power to the screw labeled BAT ?

That is correct. It isn't a Mitsubishi regulator, it is just a self exciting regulator. Once the alternator spins to about 500 rpm it will self excite and start "charging".

It used to be a 15 dollar option, but once they figured out we were using these on our cars, they started charging like 50 bucks for it and saying it was the regulator needed for Mitsubishi. Lol

Have any of you tried the other AMP options for the motor city alternators.... They have the 105amp, 160amp and 200amp. Are there any advantages going with the 160 or 200 over the 105.
