I want to see proof that Ksports, Teins, D2's, and Megan Racing coilovers are the sam

but even the guys who track their DSMs tend to cut corners and use the cheap shit. :ohdamn:

He means me. Maybe.

The consensus seems to be that Megans, Ksports and the like suffer from the same woes and I can say for certain that at least the Ksports really do not work well at all. Wouldn't buy them again.

After all this recent talk about suspension for our 1gs, I'm leaning away from the Megan coilovers towards a set of Koni's with some good quality springs. I wanted the Megan's for the height adjustment, but I hopefully won't be driving my car next winter so that should'nt be a problem. Now I'm waiting to hear if the 2g Koni rears can bolt up to my 1g.

Jim I wasn't talking about you - I forgot about your ksport test :)

I'm really just talking about the DSM crowd in general. I'm a little bitter about our community's tendency to buy cheap crap instead of saving up for quality parts. I'm not pointing to any one person. I'm just a little sour right now.

I think some people on this thead are getting ahead of them self. I think there are a lot of surporting modds needed to benefit from upgraded shocks and struts.I think I have a good start. The easy part is installing a set of strut and shocks and call it good.If you fabb all the surporting parts like all heims joint suspension and bushings in the front lower control arms. Also bushings for the sub frame. Adjusted bump steer, sway bars, camber plates, strut bars.those will all make your new struts and shocks work at there best.

This thread has gotten so off topic.. I give up.
I think the only people who would be able to give you proof have already spoken up (at least those who have seen the thread). The average DSMer wouldn't know for sure. I would trust Marti's comments. So this thread is likely to go off topic due to the fact that very few, if anyone has actual proof. DSMers are cheap, how many are going to tear their coilovers apart to look for physical proof?

Many people tear things apart and will compare etc such as cams, turbos, etc. Suspension shouldn't be any different..

Anyways, I guess this thread is done..

People will tear stuff apart that they can put back together. Coilovers would have to be cut apart to see if everything is the same. Doubt you'll a DSMer do that.

Most coilovers, even the Chinese ones, should be disassemblable. My KSports appear to be, one just needs to let out the pressure and have the correct tools. Mine will probably be taken apart at some point, maybe the pistons can be modified and the shims re-done for a more reasonable damping map.

Or I'll just buy the KW's.

True, I guess you wouldn't have to destroy the shock body, not sure why I was thinking that. With the limited number of DSMers that even have coilovers, I still doubt that we'll see people volunteering to take them apart to post photos and measurements.

That's just a picture of it being broken down. No actual proof that they're all the same.

And that only other person is you. Explain your shit and add something contributal or don't post.

And I never hear of anyone except Subie guys running Teins, if you did a poll on what coilovers people have I guarantee you more Megan Racing would shop up over Teins. I'm not saying Teins are bad, just telling you what I can see from research..

EDIT: NM, my point has already been addressed. This car's fan base doesn't have the disposable income necessary for someone to make a remote reservoir, pillowball mount, dampening/rebound/ride height adjustable, multiple spring rate suspension set up and make money doing it. Arguing over who makes the best of the worst is just silly.

Its awesome that you can get koni shocks/inserts worked on to do all those things. Its just expensive as heck!
