So after pondering for a few weeks after buying a my 2g GST i know where i want to go.

Car is currently completely stock, very clean body work with no rust.

I want to build this in a 2 step process. Final result being the magic 500 BHP number, i know this is achievable after reading the many many posts on the subject. But obviously i don't want to go straight in at 500, my stage one would ideally be around 300 − 350. The questions is what would be the best way of getting the stage 1 BHP without then having to go back and re do things for the 500 bhp?

I am not a spotty teenager ho doesn't have 2 cents to rub together, i have the funds available to get this done right.
I will confess to never having undertaken a project like this before, parts of the work will be done by professionals as i don't want to trash the engine. Having said that i also want to know the process and do as much of it as possible.

So, step 1 achieving the 300 − 350. Then moving onto the 500.

I would imagine this will be done over an 18 month to 2 years to get the final output.

This guide is pretty good:

If it was me, the first thing I would do is check the compression to see if the motor is healthy enough to take that kind of abuse. Then I'd tackle maintenance like timing belt, spark plugs and ignition system, brakes, fluids, suspension, etc and make sure all of that is in order. After that I'd take care of the tuning and probably switch to an SD setup. Then I'd tackle the intake and exhaust (FMIC, intake pipe, and 3" downpipe and turboback exhaust). Next I'd install fuel injectors and fuel pump w/rewire kit that could easily handle 500bhp. Then, only after the entire car is ready for more boost would upgrade the turbo.

But that's just me, other people would probably do things differently.

20g turbo or bigger , exhaust, fueling, intake and block needs to be done. Its not going to be cheap. Some things can be had here in the uk but not alot. Your going to need ecmlink or aemems to control your ecu or.be your new ecu.

Wont be an.easy build.and.if you get others to.build and.tune do stuff for you then its aload more money!

strange that did all of mine in the uk and he could use a 98 ecu and ecuflash

straight pipe of course. +1 on DSMlink

Also, buy injectors and fuel pump once! Are you planning on running e85? If so, buy accordingly.

Like everyone else said, make sure all regular maintenance is up to date!

The 98 ecu is an option but not the best option and not for ease anyway, if your going to go for that much power then a tuning system thats easy is alot better in my eyes. It can mostly be all done in the um yes but man its going to cost alot! I bet yours and his builds will be 3 or 4 times times more then mine if you go the uk route as everything is over priced!

I would say first get a boost leak tester [or have someone verify no leaks].
Then do a compression test, and a leak down test to see where your at there.
If you don't know when it was last done, replace the timing belt, and have a high performance kevlar one installed, and while your at it delete your balance shafts using oem kit.

Get an engine management system like ecmlink, Then get a big evo 3 16g turbo bigger fmic 3 inch exhaust system and upgraded inter-cooler piping, raise the boost slowly to tune it right, at this point a big brake upgrade should be in the plans, as well as a tougher clutch setup this will get you to near 340-400 bhp give or take.

A bigger turbo woud be needed to reach the 500bhp your aiming for, but traction will also become an issue with a fwd so might want to take that into consideration as well.

If I were you I'll start by actually getting behind the wheel of a 350 hp fwd car. Personally I wouldn't consider a 500 hp fwd to be much fun. You might think the same, unless your chasing numbers. Might save some money from over building too. To each they're own.

It only cost a grand to forge the bottom end he could also use a evo 8 ecu as he is in the uk and its not hard to get one. Also as he is in the uk should he want it tuned any evo tuner could do with minimum fuss.

To true my FWD is about 320bhp and it will wheel spin every time I floor it Guess its time for a LSD.

Thats if he buys it and does it himself! Otherwise its not going to cost that, thdn therd is getting it all together which im not sure how skilled damian is but hopefully he will come in and let us know what he can do. I still think for ease of the owner ecmlink is the best option it may not be cheapest but its best for the person to see stuff and not just told stuff and then they can learn themselfs easier then flashing.

Thats my opinion as if your going full on 500+ hp why budget and not get the best there is to at least control it?
