So i had my car for all of 8 days before it started knocking. I took it to a mitsu dealer thinking it was my fault. But what they found surprised me. The oil pan was crushed in on a line and was holding back oil flow. The guy said that if i did it i would have remebered it since those are hard to bend that severly. I am pretty bumed about this seeing as i owe 2k on it still. I wont have a car for a long time and might even have to quit my job becuase of this. The mitsu deal said they wanted 4,500 bux to fix this and all they did was look at the oil pan. How far off do you guys think they are? They said they would need almost 3000 in parts including a new shortblock. Are they wrong are all those parts neccesary?

I dont know what to do i am so upset right now.

Hmmmm, thats pretty shity man. Well I dont know the extent of the problems you are expecriencing, but if I were you I would take it to someone else such as a DSM specialty shop in your area. The mitsu. dealerships have a tendancy to go a bit over-board. All it may need is a new oil pan, like a nice moroso oil pan 550$approx, and a new line of which ever one you crushed, but I cant be sure on this just because it cant see it. But the dealership may aslo be correct in the needing a new short block because perhaps oil was kept from it to much and it damaged the block, but thats doubtful and if you just started experiencing these problems then the block may not be a problem, and you may just need a new oil pan.

Im sure you could find a shortblock in the classifieds for WAY cheaper then that. The stealership will charge out the ass for stuff, if you want a second opinion take it to a reputable mechanic and see what he has to say. You could get a race motor for about 4500$ ROFL

Check laws in your state about purchaseing a car with problems and such, its is possible to get your money back. Just another angle to look at the problem from.

I am looking around and relizing this can be done for so much cheaper.

Jasper sells rebuilt engines for $3000. Now you do the math whether you would rather pay $4500 to get your old engine fixed or get an almost new one :)

You can take a car to a dsm shop and have them take a look at it. As few people mentioned already it might be that the only the oil pan is bad.

Yeah i cant really affored a new engine tho. If i cant come up with a cheaper alternative i will have to sell the car and just not have a car for a while. I threw a rod tho....wont other stuff have to be replaced besides the oil pan?

Yep, the block might be toast too. Have to remove engine and open it up to see the real damage unless theres a hole in the block, i feel bad for you man, shady people out there... But if your wanting to do the work i have a 7bolt block laying around i can sell to you cheap along with some other 7bolt stuff.

I was thinnking a new block and new oil pan new gaskets is that all i will need? Will i need new baerings?

Well not sure about needing bearings, but since you cant drive the car...or atleast I hope your not. So take the engine out and if you dont know what you are looking for then have someone you trust to look it over and see if there is any bad damage dont to the block, you may just need a few internals like a new rod, and piston and perhaps bearings. So it could be anywhere from 700$ to 3k if you get a jaspers engine.
EDIT** That 700$ would also include an oil pan. Also you could find a stage1 short block on dsmparts.com, for 2,044.00$ or just get a good one out of a salvage yard.

What did they tell you happened? Did you spin a bearing or lose a piston? They might have told you you needed a new shortblock because it is WAY more money in their pockets.

If you spun a bearing, you don't need a short block. If you lost a pitson and the cylinder walls were mared beyond repair, then it might be more easy to just grab up a shortblock.

3K is A LOT for a shortblock. You could get a 2.3 stroker or a 2.4 preped block for that price. You can pick up a rebuilt block from Buschur for 1500. Jackson's sells a nicely built block too. ARP hardware Weisco Pistons 1G Rods.

If you don't need a shortblock, you could just get you crank ground or get a new one and an oversized bearings. You can get a 100mm stroker crank, rods and pistons for 1500.

If you go the block route you need a Shortblock, head bolts/studs, head gasket, and everything you need for a 60K service (timing belt, water pump ect). While this is being done though, it's the best time to upgrade valves or the clutch and flywheel. Your clutch and flywheel have to be swapped to the new block as the head and there is no point in putting an old water pump on a new block.

I am not looking to upgrade to a 2k shortblock....1g rods...Hoping to get the engine torn apart as soon as i find someoe to do it for less than 1600 in labor.
