why is it i've seen a few 4g63 engines with hyundai spark plug covers.. there was a valve cover on ebay with a hyundai badge on the spark plug cover, and a 4g63 engine for sale on ebay now that says in the description "some came with hyundai valve covers..." what is this about?

The only thing that makes me hesitate using a Hyundai VC gasket is that the part numbers are the same for both the earlier and the 95 VCs as it shows in the pic.
I do agree with the 95s being thicker around the stud openings though, but I have both styles laying around and the only differences are that the gasket grooves on the 95 HVC are squared off whereas the 95 Mitsu VC is rounded. I don't have a pre-95 HVC so I couldn't tell you whether they are rounded or squared in the grooves but if they are like the ones that came with the mitsu motors, I would say that they are rounded.
I also have a MVC gasket set and the spark plug gaskets are the same for the 95 HVC and the MVC. The MVC gasket fits nice and snug...again, the biggest difference are the stud holes. The MVC gasket bolt holes need to be opened up a bit to accomdate the studs if you use studs or buy the HVC gasket with the opening already big enough for studs.

Acronyms to keep confusion down for those looking in...
HVC = Hyundai Valve Cover
MVC = Mitsubishi Valve Cover
Here's a comparison pic

im thinking mabey they were 1.8L, just used the same valve cover, or head. I got a timing set for my car, and it had instructions for a 2.0 mitsubishi motor or a 1.8 hyundai motor.

I have a Hyundai valve cover on my car. Its a little bit different than the one above.

The one above is the valve cover I have. Its off the late 94-95 Elantra with the 4g37 1.8 DOHC motor. Hustler talon how did you get your valve cover not to leak with the bolts. I put bolts in and it leaks like crazy in the spark plug valley. Did you just use a hyundai seal and it work or what?

Very simple question. Just couldn't find the answer after searching for a long time.

What car did this valve cover come off of, and will it fit on my car?

I had a shaved top for a while on my 99gsx. Had it powdercoated. The stock ones I find look better when powder coated than the shaved. Deleted the pics of the shaved one but i liked this one alot better, the shaved one just looked plane.

I believe I heard, and hopefully someone with more knowledge on the matter will chime in, but yes they are a bolt-on in a sense. They use longer, or bigger, bolts and require a lot of work for them to seal right. Something about studs... Most I believe have said they just leak all the time. Maybe this helps, maybe not. :thumb:

Search.
