ok guys, the shitometer is reading full, but i'm just seeing if the guage is broke here. ok me and one of my buddies were talkin about how bad mitsubishi tranny's are and he said there was a tranny in a Hyundai the bolts right up to a 4G63? He think's it's a tiberon (sp?).
i did a search on this but i didnt find anything, and another unnamed DSM site is down so i cant look anythigng up there. He also said it's stronger and geared better for drag. any thoughts on this one?

Hyundai uses a lot of mitsubishi parts. I really doubt their transmission are stronger than ours.

And I am not sure about the tibby transmission even working in ours. It might be more similar to the 3g eclipse stuff.

A lot of the Hundai cars use the 4G63 7bolt. I believe the Elantra also suffers from the crankwalk problem. A local garage here in Georgia specalizes in JDM swaps in Hundai and Mits. cars.

i remember reading a thread on newtiburon.com stating about how mistu. and hyndaiswerwe alike.. the sonata tranny is bettr than the tib one though.. used to have a tib!!

Can someone confirm wether the 2.4L hyundai transmissions will bolt up to the 2.4L spyder? I've found those sonata trannys very cheap around here.

are you suggesting a hyundai tranny is stronger than a mitsu  . I wouldn't doubt that they are even weaker than mitsus and even though they may bolt to the block what makes you think the motor mounts will line up or things such as the shifter cables wont need to be changed? Why not just get a good rebuild on your stock one?

lets forget about it bolting to the block for a second, what about the tranny mounts and axles? will they line up? something to think about

You seem to forget that there were Hyundais' (Excels, Elantras & Sonatas) that had 4G6x motors in them and any of their trannies would directly swap into their Mitsu counterparts. The motor was Mitsu. and the tranny was Mitsu too. However, I don't recommend using those trannies since their ratios are geared for N/A cars. You don't want that on a turbo car - trust me. Oh and No! No Tiburon came with a Mitsu. motor or Mitsu. tranny so it WILL NOT bolt up. :thumb:

I own a 2003 Tiburon and a 92 laser. I can tell you that my laser with 124,000 miles shifts a hell of a lot better than my tiburon that has 31,000 miles. Not to mention that the 1st gear in the tiburon is so short that in a turbo awd car would probably be useless.

The sonota tranny is the same size as the turbo fwd dsm tranny, It bolts right up. I think the only difference is the ratios, I don't mind low ratios. I found a used turbo fwd tranny for $700, or I can get a sonota tranny for like $300.

I don't know what to do.

Ive found a sonata tranny for $250.. while looking I also came across a galant 5spd for $100 that I think im gonna go pick up.

I'm automatic right now, so that's gonna be no problem. Im just exploring, and getting things in order for my MTX swap.
