Hi everyone... i know there are threads and i did searching for like 1/2 hr on here and wording in different ways to try and find it but not much luck so sorry for the 1st person that says u should have searched.. Ok here is what I'am needing info on . I have a 95 GSX that i'am currently building a fully built all forged 4g63T with brian crower valvetrain and the whole deal.. and clutchmasters stage 4 sprung 6 puck clutch.. and i'am looking for big numbers ok and i wanna know what the stock tranny has been know to hold and tranfsercase. Now this is my daily driven car until winter since i live in North Dakota. but it will be going to MAP performance out in Minniapolis in few weeks to get professional tune once its dropped back into the gsx and i dont wanna tune it to far and hurt the tranny until i get the funding to get a built tranny and transfercase.. and please tell me what brand of tranny and transfercase will be the ideal stage and who to get one from.. i'am looking to go about 400-500awhp for now and maybe 600awhp next spring.. thanks for any help!!

There's no real set number. It's also torque, and more specifically how torque is applied that breaks mechanical parts. You might make 1000hp but very low torque and never break anything. Then again, you might make 350hp, dump the clutch at every light and wind up with a pile of broken transmissions. The only way you'll know is to bust it. The only way you'll know you won't bust it is to spend the $. Even then, you still might bust it.

Hopefully someone will chime in with what they were at when they broke theirs. I know my friend was running 11's when he broke a gear in his 1g. I don't think the 2g is tremendously stronger.

The 2g trans is weaker. The 3-4 slider can shatter at around 400lb/ft.

Transmission are not rated on how much hp they can hold but rather how much torque they are rated to handle. Plus it all depends in which type of racing will the tranny see: street racing, drag racing, road racing, etc... The OEM trans are not rated for high numbers. You might see some shep stage 3 or 4 trans out there holding high figures, but most of those cars are strictly track cars that eventhough they see hard abuse they dont see high mileage abuse. Most DSM race cars have gonne thru a few trans throught their track life. Shep himself wrote in an earlier thread about his stage trans rebuilds and that all 4 stages rebuild use stock gears. The OEM trans synchro wont hold much abuse. Depending on what type of racing you are looking for, dogbox trans hold high power and abuse... Hope this helps. Heres a tip, dont rely on this thread for certain advice and questions. Call the profesional trans builders that specialized in their stuff. Call Shep, he'll make sure to guide you with what you are looking for, just make sure you call him after the DSM/Evo Shootout since he's probably bussy at the moment getting ready for the Shootout.

It also depends on the driver hand abuse on the shift knob. Ive had clients who have broken their trans in their 350hp Honda Civic while another clients 500hp Civic trans is still going strong, both cars with the same trans but different hand shift knob behavior...

First, mileage is a key factor. a fresh trans vs. 150k will be a huge difference.
Second, torque is more important to watch rather than HP numbers.
Third, cooling for these gears is needed if you are doing back to back pulls or road racing etc. Because you can do lots of damage running back to back hard shifting. Upgrading to an external cooler would help a ton, and/or giving time to let it cool down.
Lastly, the center differential is one of the weakest links in these trannies, along with the 3-4 slider. Those two are the most important to upgrade if you are going to be beating on them a ton.
