The machine shop cant put on my arp rod bolts so I am going to have to keep the stock rod bolts, what is the rating of stock rod bolts? The machine shop said that they couldn't heat up my rods again to take the pistons off because they are blue in color. the did not appear blue to me though.

Is the machince shop saying they need to remove the pistons to put rod bolts on? If so that is not true. You are able to put rod bolts on without removing the pistons.

I'm not sure why the machince shop is telling you they have to remove the piston to install ARP rod bolts. It may be time to look for a another shop.

The process for this is really a simple procedure for any machince shop. If you want you could remove the rod bolts yourself, by knocking them out. Make sure you do not damage the part line and keep the cap with the rod it came off. The machince shop will press the new rod bolts in, cut .002-.003 thousandth off the cap, torque to spec, hone the large end back to spec. Done.

im running stock rod bolts in mine and now problem i think id worry about the rod being blue in color more than anything! the rod bolts will hold but why are they heating the rods they should just press it in and not have to heat it up! so i agree you should look else where!

the machine shop does have a press. The guy at the machine shop told me that he would have to take the pistons off the rods to get a straight shot of installing the rod bolts. The rods have to be heated to take off the pistons not to install the rod bolts. Im going to try somewhere else this weekend.

All he needs is a cheap arbor press and a short piece of steel tubing. Flip the rod and set the head of the bolt on a solid part of the plate, slide the tubing over the bolt, and press against the tube. The bolts dont have that much press on them so they dont need to go into a 12ton shop press.

I got the arp rod bolts installed for 30 dollars and about an hour of waiting. thanks.
Edit: I installed the pistons to the crankshaft. I got a reading of too less clearance. the reading was the clearance below .002. I cant remember what it is was maybe .015. Is that bad?
