Hey fellas, Im at the point in my build where I am starting to fab up my downpipe and waste gate dumps for my new turbo set up. I in no means call myself a pro welder, but I get the job done! I bought some 3" stainless 90* bends from Welcome - Ace Stainless Supply as well as some 1.5" straight stock for the dumps.. Feel free to check out my build thread for more on the build!! Heres what I got done yesterday!

I like it. What welder are you using? Is the place you bought the material from relatively cheaper than others? I'm looking for a site to pick up some material to start practicing on but one that has good material nonetheless.

I forgot to take a pic of the alternator clearance but I am about an inch and a half from it.. I will get pictures today when Im out working on it. The reason I ran so close to the oil filter is because I have to be sure I can clear the dp with my lower IC pipe.. The only way I can check that at the moment is to eyeball it since the pipe is on the car!

And as you can see from this pic I dont have much room between the turbo and radiator to work with. I still have to make the dumps as well. But Thank you for the feedback and suggestions, I will keep them in mind and see what I can do today with it!

Get an evo 8 or 9 forward facing oil filter to help clear up some space. Thats what im going to do, nice start anyhow man!

Thanks for the comments guys. As far as the Fram filter, Ive never had any problems with them and Ive ran them for almost 4 years.

I only got about a half hour to work on this until I got a call and had to leave, but heres what I got done.

I rotated one of the pieces slightly and made a little more room for you guys worrying about how close it is to the filter!

Im sure I will have to do some more cutting and adjusting to make it right, but at least I have an idea where I have it going now. As of right now Im pretty sure the LICP will not fit, that the dp is coming forward too much. Ill have to adjust it over and in some more. We'll see.

Hate to tell ya, but thats too close. Your going to cook alternators. That manifold really puts your turbo in a piss poor spot. My t/s WH1C manifold had enough room for a 3" dp, lots of clearance, a 2.25" licp, and stock fans.

I had to make a heat shield and add a fan just to stop my regulators inside the alternator from being cooked. I was going threw a regulator every 600-1000 miles. It was very anoying. With that said, your DP is even closer to the alternator than mine is. haha got to love design work. Other than that the manifold looks real nice,.. And as already stated, the Fram oil filter kills me, but hey man you like them and they work for you so more power to ya. :thumb:

Forward facing oil filter housing and a alternator relocation and be done. :thumb:

Looks good but I think I'd be easier to relocate the alternator to the back and get a forward facing ofh then you wouldn have to worry about that crap. The biggest concern would be the alternator.

I have two buddies that have their dp's pretty close to their alternator and just wrap it and have never had any issues.. I dont plan to relocate the alternator since I just did this wire tuck, and trying to change a relocated alternator from the back side of the motor seems friggin stupid. I really do appreciate the comments guys, but Im a pretty stubborn guy and usually have to learn first hand before I fix something. So, until I start cooking alternators Im not gonna dump the stupid amount of money on the relocation kit..

A heat shield is a good idea. I would try that first and see if it will keep the alternator a bit cooler.

Thanks, I made a Phenloic heat shield, cut with the laser machine at work. It's the same material that electric circuit boards are made from except black not green. The heat shield fits inbetween the exhaust DP and alternator, and is very effective.

Before, when my car got to full operating temp the alternator would be around 13.1v now with the fan and the heatshield it stays around 13.5v all the time!

There is one for sale in the classifieds for 60 bucks, I just got mine for 90. Doesn't seem to be stupid amount of money. Just sayin.

Other than that looks great make a heat shield and wrap that thing.

i'd header wrap it all good regardless of what else you do, it makes a world of difference, otherwise looks good. I plan to do an hx35 to mine at some point too

Im really not sure why Y'all are so worried about how close it is to the oil filter. LOL Especially being heat wrapped.. Anywho, I got some more progress done tonight.. I applied my so called "gorilla welds" to the down pipe today, along with some more added on..

I didnt have any straight pieces of 3" so I had to improvise.. I had a spare piece of my old FWD cat back just laying around.. So, I cut it up and made my kind of straight piece..

Love the car... Make sure to take your time with fabrication, and keep in mind that having perfect matching of the pipes you weld together will be so much easier then filling all the gaps. There is no rush so take the time and you will love it in the end. Keep the pics coming :)

^Word, it only took me two failed o2 housing before I eliminated the o2 housing and made the entire DP for my HX35. I didn't have a welder at my disposal though, just a sharpie and a good friend with a welder at his work.

Hey guys, started fabbin up my waste gate dumps the other day.. Everything looked all gravy until I realize that the front roll mount is where it is.. You'll see.. I have to make a couple changes.. PICS!!

Dont knock it, Im still learning! :p Im a dumbass and didnt order any 90* bends of this same diameter.. :ohdamn:

I couldnt run the passenger side dump under the turbo like I wanted due to the IC pipe and oil drain..
