How to program a Keyless Remote [Merged 5-7] fob reprogram programming alarm buttons

My keyless remote for my 97 talon tsi died. I was going to get one off of ebay and then program it, but mine looks totally different. I got it with the car and it has the chrysler emblem on it so It should be from the factory. Does anyone else have the same remote as me or know if the other eclipse remote will work? I kind of like the way mine looks better hehe. The photo's a little blury, but the 2 button just say lock, unlock. and if you press both buttons, the alarm goes off like a panic button, and if you hold down the lock button the headlights come on.
thanks,
-Anthony

I lost the factory alarm remote for my 95 eclipse and I bought a used one off of eBay. How can I reprogram my vehicle to work with the new one I purchased? I want to avoid bringing it to a dealership if possible if I can do this myself.

Does anyone know how to program the 2g keyless entry/alarm keyfabs. I know with mazdas its a sequence of turing the key in the ignition and opening and shutting the door multiple times. Any help would be appreciated.

Jon

Keyless programming for 97+ DSM's
To reprogram your keyless entry system for a new key fob:
1) Turn ignition to OFF.
2) Ground pin 1 of the Data Link Connector (black 16-pin connector under dash driver's side). Pin 4 of this connector is a ground, so placing a jumper wire between pins 1 & 4 will accomplish this. Grounding pin 1 tells the system you are getting ready to reprogram it.
3) Close all the doors.
4) Turn the key to ACC, then back to OFF. The power locks will lock/unlock. The system is now ready to be programmed.
5) Press a button on your key fob.
6) If you have two key fobs, press a button on the second fob within 1 minute of pressing a button on the first one. Both must be programmed at the same time. If you only have one remote, press a button on it 2 more times to signal that you only have one.
7) The doors will lock/unlock to signal that the codes were received.
8) Remove the connection between pins 1 & 4.

My 97 talon's remote for the keyless entry doesnt seem to be working very good. I can be within 3 feet of the car, and sometimes i will have to hit the button a few times to get the doors to either lock, or unlock. I've replaced the battery with a brand new one, and the range didnt get any better. If im more than like 10 feet from my car, the keyless wont work at all.
Also, when my doors lock, just my lights under the rearview mirror flash twice, and when i unlock, those lights come on, and stay on for like 3-4 seconds. Is that normal behavior?
Im not sure if my remote is the factory unit or not. Its what the guy gave me with the car. It says TRW on the back of the unit, and it has 3 buttons, Unlock, Lock, Panic.
Thanks
-Tim

everything you described is normal. Its a factory remote entry system so don't expect it to work from far. The lights flash when you lock it to let you know it is locked and they stay on for a little when you are about to enter the car so you can make sure nobody is in your back seat waiting to strangle you. :D

I've done a search on this and can not find the answer to my question. I just bought my gs... so how do i know if it came with keyless entry and alarm? What should i look for if i have it, and if i do where do i get the remote? All the other threads i could find on this were just trouble shooting.
thanks in advance,
cale

I know there should be a box somewhere under the dash, as to where it is I have no clue cause it depends on how it was installed. When I bought my car it only had a keyless entry but when I had my alarm installed the installer noticed that there was already a box there for an alarm. I guess the previous owner had one of some sort.

call a dealer and give them your vin number and they will tell you if it came with keyless entry

lock your doors and check if the green security light comes on and you'll see if you have a factory alarm or not

I wasnt aware I had one. One time I left the windows open for my friend and I came back into the car from best buy. I unlocked it simply by reaching my hand inside the car and flipping it open. and the alarm went off!!! :shhh: . I was like wtf ..... Or you could just check for the green "security" light that comes up when locking your doors

The factory box lives under the driver's side rear seat side trim, forward of the speaker near the door post. You'll never see it.

Look for the SECURITY light.

Or, lower a window, open the door, lock the doors, shut the door, come back in 5 minutes, reach in the door and use the lock lever to unlock it. The alarm will go off. To shut it off, unlock the driver's door with the key.

For a remote, check eBay. You can use either a Talon or an Eclipse with the factory alarm. The Eclipse comes with a Panic button.

My keyless entry has a distance of about 5 feet from the car. This is ridiculous. Is there any way I can improve that distance? I have replaced the batteries and have no clue what to do. Any help would be appreciated, i'm sure many others have the same problem..

Yes, the infamous meat antenna may help. I've also heard of just holding it against your thigh.
I think mine has a range of about 20'.
How far away did you need it to work?

my range sucks... i gotta be like right next to the car, even with new batteries...

Eh, that's all you need, I wasted the money on a long range antennae for my alarm, if I leave my keys in my pocket at home, I can go outside and find my car unlocked/trunk open/windows down, all sorts of fun stuff. Kinda sucks.

Heh, I can usually here the locks lock/unlock when my remote works... What does it matter how far away it works, as long as by the time you get to the car, the doors are unlocked.? ;)

I'm guessing you're complaining about a stock keyless entry system. My alarm required me to install power locks.

No big deal, but it is fun to walk out of the ball game and set off the car alarm to remind me where I parked. Five feet isn't going to work for that.

yea i replaced the batteries in my remote and i have to be right next to my car for it to work. so close i could just stick the key in and unlock it. It'd be nice to be able to unlock the door while walking up to the car, instead of stopping at the door to do it.
